Today is Oct. 26 and I registered on the Microsoft site for the $14.99 upgrade to Win8 from a computer I bought after June2012. I am waiting to get an email with the downloadable file. Anyone else waiting for notification today.

I just ran the Upgrade assistant to check compatibility. Looks like most everything on my system would be fine upgraded to 8. No DVD playback but I'm assuming there is something coming out of the aps that would take care of that issue. Also my touch screen All in One Asus wouldn't lose anything in the way of touch controls but wouldn't have any of the newest features that were built since I bought mine.

Ditto on the upgrade register...

I cant help but wonder if they need to send out 100,000,000 emails
to us..... Or at least some large numbers.

I cannot even imagine server numbers and size's to handle all of the
Dloads. The server "Clouds" may rumble.

I'm buying the DVD version when notified. Won't install for a period
of time and read about its use.

So where is it? They most likely are sending them out in small segments so that everyone doesn't download at the same time.

I'm not sure that I want it. Hopefully, it doesn't have to be an immediate install.

Don S,

For a little bit extra they ship a DVD version to you,
as I mentioned above.

Did you pay when you first filed the form, or later. I haven't paid anything yet, or received anything.

I ran the upgrade assistant again and entered the code they emailed me. It then took me to the payment page that first starts with $39.99 and after entering the code it changes to $14.99. I entered my credit card info and they sent me the code to the download. The download will take me about 3 and a half hours. It is downloading now.

Thanks for starting this thread about windows 8.

I ran the latest upgrade assistant and I am no longer getting "your cpu is not compatable" that I did a few months ago, so wondering if they have dropped that requirement?

I have an AMD quad core computer with 4GB of memory.

I still want to retain my windows 7 and dual boot with 8, in fact I have two copies of windows 7 already on my computer one for online banking only and other for general surfing.

Just wondering if I was to install another clean copy of windows 7 on a different partition would it let me install windows 8 then ok on that partition and would my existing windows 7 still dual boot and product key not become deactivated?

Windows 7 came with my computer.

Thanks
Musiclover

I tried this morning to install Windows 8 but I don't have enough space in my C drive.

I have an Asus All in One Desktop ET2410 IUTS BO34C.
It is divided into C drive and D drive.
My C drive has 13.6 available out of 79.9 GB
My D drive has 242 GB available out of 365 GB

I tried installing Windows 8 but it needs 20 GB of space in my C Drive. All currently installed programs only make up 1.97 GB.

Can I install Windows 8 on this computer without reformatting my computer and causing lots of problems for myself?

I called Asus and they thought I could install to D drive, however, Win 8 doesn't give that option to me. I could do an F9 Recovery and create one partition on my computer which would solve my problem, but I'm not sure I want to do that even with several backups. (a system image of Win c) and an Acronis full backup of C and D.

Joan,

As 8 is an upgrade it is probably looking to upgrade 7, so can't find that on your D drive hence no option.

I would try putting 7 on D then that should work ok to upgrade we hope.

A second copy of 7 is a good idea in my opinion so as to do online banking etc so all will not be lost.

A good easy enough to learn tool to download so as to point windows to a particular windows installation on a different partition is EasyBCD.

Musiclover

P.S I have now checked with Microsoft and windows 8 (upgrade version) has to see another OS such as windows 7 on the partition that you want windows 8 on.

Probably a few ways to do this, either do a fresh install of windows 7 first or a more convenient way would be to install your existing image backup of 7 on that partition, boot into your old existing windows 7 and use EasyBCD to point windows to the new windows 7 in the bootloader, sounds more compliacted that it is actually as EasyBCD is fairly straight forward in this respect.

I spent time on the phone getting help from Asus. We tried a number of things but I finally came to the conclusion to abandon my idea of installing Windows 8 on this machine. If I combined partitions C and D into one I would be deleting the recovery partition. And unless I were to buy a copy of Windows 7 it would be impossible to restore my Asus to factory specs.

Then the idea of creating a dual booting machine was also out of my reach as well.

Asus techs told me they had many calls today with people who installed Windows 8 and now want to revert back and they can't get that to happen. So I'm very fortunate to still have a very nice operating Asus All in One.

Joan, one thing you could try is to resize your partitions (make sure you have a good backup first). Because it's one disk, just partitioned into two drives, and since you have plenty of remaining space on the D: drive, you should easily be able to add 20-30 GB of space on your C: drive by taking it from the D: drive.

Check out this link for information on exactly how to do this with the "free for home use" EaseUS partition utility.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
