Thanks John, I used EaseUS partition utility and was able to add 50 additional gigs to my C drive. So now I have:
C=132 GB
D=312 GB
With this additional space I have enough to load Win 8 and not have to worry about it getting filled any time soon.

I installed Windows 8. Wow!!!! What a great new operating system for my touchscreen Asus All in One desktop. It installed in about 40 minutes, kept all my data and is quite easy to figure out. I can have the same opening screen that I had under Windows 7 and move back and forth to the new look when I want to use it.

My touch screen is much more useful to me than it was in Win 7 since there is an easier access to everything in my system from pictures to music etc.

Seeker,

Is the DVD offer within the same email order as the digital copy was. Since I just installed Win8 I went back to try to order the DVD backup for $14.99. It wasn't clear when I did it that I would be getting the DVD or just reordering another digital copy. I didn't get an email confirmation so I'm not sure what happened with this second order within the special offer email. What kind of response did you get when you ordered

Is it not possible to burn your own DVD backup after doing the download of windows 8?

If its an .iso image then its just a case of opening in nero.

I would like to know this if possible.

Thanks

Yes, I made an .iso image and put it in my data partition and made a DVD of it. I wasn't sure what the DVD would give me in addition to what I made myself.

Thanks for the info on EaseUS partition software. Just wonder if it fairly error proof when resizing partitions that have already got data on them and able to move the data to a new partition ok?

Used to use Partition Magic many years ago but more often than not got a lot of errors when trying to resize a partition with data.

Thanks

Window 8 upgrade? I think, I'll wait another 90 versions and go back to Windows 98.

Wait until they reintroduce the 386 as a "Tritium" processor. Twenty megahertz of screaming microprocessor power and sixteen mighty megabytes of RAM! And I've got a copy of "Windows 98 For Dummies" for you when you're ready.

Somewhat seriously, I still have a 486 in storage that may have some good old MIDI files--if I can figure out how to get them off the 50 Mb IDE hard drive and into my brand new floppy-free DAW.

Get yourself a cheap external floppy drive, USB powered. It'll do the trick. I got one of those and it's come in quite handy at times.

Mike

On a photo forum I frequent, the wise word is to avoid Win8 like the plague. Or at least wait until everyone that bought it has done the "beta" testing.

Doesn't anyone remember Vista? The fix was called Win 7.

Other than touch screen capability, what does it offer? Perhaps it requires more system resources, but that doesn't seem like an "offer" to me.

Musicclover,

EaseUS partition software was error proof for me and I did it without reading lots of directions first. It allowed me to keep all my data on my C and D partitions. It just shrunk D drive by the amount I wanted and then added it to the C partition.

I don't know whether it allows you to transfer data from one to the other. I think not.

I do love Windows 8. It has a better way of saving power by giving me a "sleep" option instead of shutting down so often. It recommends using that and keeping the computer on all the time. It certainly is easier to navigate around different programs. I found Windows 7 to be difficult in locating programs and files. Win8 is easier with it "Search" area allowing you to add tiles to the start screen.
