Matt - can't you try your Tascam with your test machine and see if it works (at least with the Win7 drivers)?

Boy, I wish. My test machine is a laptop with no firewire connection. The Tascam requires not only firewire 400, but it must be based on a Texas Instrument chipset. I can test software in Windows 8 with no problem, but I'm not sure how to get around the hardware limitation. Plus, Tascam insisted that the driver they supplied for 64-bit Windows 7 would be their last for this class of sound card/control surface.

Update: tonight, I read that one person successfully installed the Windows 7 drivers for the Tascam FW-1884 into Windows 8, and the device worked fine. Assuming this is true, it's excellent news.

I'm running BIAB in Windows 8 on a Mac, via VMWare Fusion 5. So far, no problems. And it feels a lot snappier than my previous setup, Fusion and Windows XP. The $40 Windows 8 upgrade was certainly worth it.

Glad to hear that.... good to know that VMWare/Mac can be updated Windows 7 --> Windows 8, and that BiaB works fine on both.

If anyone has tried this already... Would be interested to hear about Parallels (upgrading Windows 7--> Windows 8) and also plain Mac/Bootcamp Windows 7 --> Windows 8.

I'm starting to really like windows 8 now after getting it to run fairly stable for a while.

The start app screen is a good idea I think, and some of the apps like the travel one are amazing with panoramic views of cities etc.

Reading the news apps with a lot of pages scrolling from right to left in full screen using the mouse wheel is indeed refreshing and a whole new way of doing things.

Still miss the start menu a little but the show all apps in start screen helps a little.

Takes a while to get windows 8 to run stable I found due probably to display driver and maybe an incompatible firewall, but beginning to like it a lot, mainly for the start app screen.

No problems with biab or rb so far, all running well.
It’s a 32 bit version just like my windows 7 so able to use the vsc dxi etc.

Music lover,
Have you tried any of the utilities that give you back the start button?
Google window 8 start button to see a list of them.

Thanks Peter,

I have thought about downloading one of them, but wanted to get windows 8 built up first and doing an image backup as I go along as I have had driver problems with my ATI radeon 4600 graphics card, wou;d work ok in desktop but wouldn't play video on apps, got it sorted now I think.

I have put a few extra shortcuts on my desktop such as to my documents and program files, as I mainly used the start to go to the all programs and then sent a shortcut to desktop (usually for manuals and that kind of thing)

Maybe the shortcut for program files will get me there, but will try one of the start utilities as well.

Oh and an easy way to shutdown and restart 2 shorcuts on desktop

I installed it on a spare boot drive, but so far, it does not like my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra which is kind of a deal killer for me. Win 7 64-Bit has been pretty stable, and aside from "getting with the program" I see no great advantages to 8 so far that I don't already have. I'm hoping the Pro (Intel) version for tablets will drive down the price of Win 7 tablets. Of course if PG would do an ARM version, I'd be thrilled and go with Win 8 in a heartbeat.

I take it you have tried in compatibility mode in properties.

The fast track pro seems to be running ok for me but its a 32 bit system.
