I received my BIAB hard disk a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying it. It is easy to use and gives me lots of inspiration. I love the realtracks. I am learning lots simply by listening to other people’s contributions and how to make the instruments work with each other and with the vocals. I am looking forward to posting another original song shortly.

Joanne

Hi there! Another South African - we need all the numbers we can get. Where are you situated?

BIAB is unique and although there are other accompaniment packages none of them are quite as complete as BIAB.

Happy Composing.

It is and it isn't. You can be cranking out demos or backing parts--good ones--in an evening, which is thoroughly amazing if you think about it. It just takes some patience and a little musical knowledge on your part.

But when you get under the hood . . . Look at some of the questions that are being asked in the BIAB forum, e.g., "How do I make it do this?" People are using it for things I don't believe were originally envisioned. And it just keeps getting better. Wait until you've been using it as long as some of us. We expect great things from you!

Now THAT'S the ticket. One day I plugged in a progression from a pop piece I had written. I hit Play and listened. When it got to the turnaround it did something that made me turn around and say, "What the #$*@ was that?" It was totally unexpected, and far better than anything I could have imagined or executed on my own. Since then I have been seeking out BIAB's strengths. I have actually come to consider it a co-composer. It has totally changed the way I create music. Now, if I could just make time to do more of it . . .

Richard

Inspiration and learning are BIG benefits. I'm mostly a harp and blues guitar player. But once in a while if my wife has a small money gig I sit in on percussion which includes a snare Cajon and a high hat! (-:

I played drums MANY years ago...as a third instrument but have benefitted GREATLY by punching up the BIAB style demos...listening and then soloing the drums so I can directy copy the patterns.

I am blessed with excellent time and by digging into the patterns...looping them and not having to "listen through" actual recordings or Youtubes to hear the nuances of what is being played on the drums... I'm now "getting away with it" on paying gigs!!(-:

Hi Kevin, if the South African numbers start stacking up maybe we should ask for some Boeremusiek ("Farmer's Music - direct translation) realtracks in the styles wishlist. I wonder who they will get to record THAT?

I am just getting the hang of how to play the concertina "on the white notes" now and am WAYYYY long away from even trying to do that, hence my dream of a bunch of BIAB BOERE BUDDIES ....

(Just thinking , this should/could be the Farmer's Jazz Genre????)

Since we do all this on PCs, it could bring a whole new meaning to the Farmer in the Dell. *ba dump bump*

(Bad pun referring to old English nursery rhyme, for those not of Anglo-American extraction.) *ducks*

mmm.... I don’t think I will be much help there..I originally come from Zimbabwe but have spent half my life in South Africa so not sure whether I am Zimbabwean or South African. Maybe it’s time I started trying out that Boeremusiek.

I think that many parts of Band in a Box are quite clunky/uninstinctive. While it is good for a few funky features, the basic features such as repeats and 1st/2nd endings and codas are far too complicated to do a simple thing, and this is what takes time. There may be many advantages of Band in a Box over other programs, but to me it seems that the core aspects of BIAB are what is necessary and sadly let it down.

"Joanne Cooper, Aspiring singer/songwriter"

Hi Joanne. Lose the "aspiring" in your sigature. If you've ever sung and written a song...then you ARE a "singer/songwriter."

You can aspire to greatness...fame....popularity etc. but you can't aspire to be something you already are!!!!
