that's a good question for howard, i don't know why. howard!? 
the only thing that comes to mind is the different distances from the neck on the 1st and 6th strings would effect the tonality on a round neck more than a square neck. just a guess. i have seen them play the newer tri-cone electric dobros as a standard guitar though. in that case, probably a round neck.
how are you feeling, howard? i was sure you would enjoy these tunes.
