Is there an easy way to remove 2013 and revert to my 2012.5 version?

I was optimistic when I saw the following in the 2013 release notes...

-=>We’ve added a new MIDI DXi synth (SampleTank) and have added some great High Quality (“Hi-Q”) MIDI Sounds. These Hi-Q sounds make the MIDI tracks (regular and MIDI SuperTracks), sound much better

I received no Hi-Q sounds with my upgrade. I was told it was not applicable to my version (Pro). I could find no information on which version(s) came with the Hi-Q instruments. My assumption was it was in all versions.

-=>“Simpler” Very Simple Bass Jazz RealTracks added. By request, a Jazz Swing RealTracks has been created that plays the simplest bass lines for Jazz Swing, with root and 5th in the “a” section, and quarter notes only in the “b” section.

The RTs are a bit better - especially at the slower tempos. However, at faster tempos, they are still 'all over the place'. While a few bars can be heard as advertised, most are not.

-=>Better bass fretboard playing for bass styles. For MIDI bass patterns, an intelligent algorithm determines where to play the bass part, and this has been improved.

The SuperTracks seem to be worse - playing unpleasant (wrong?) notes often and in the upper registers that sound strange to me. I guess a better explanation is needed on better fretboard playing. Maybe it does not apply to STs?

Now that holiday gigs are upon me, I feel more comfortable going back to my old Midi SuperTrack Acoustic Bass and RealDrums.

Can anyone advise best way to get 2012.5 back?

Thanks,
R

Try restoring your PC to a date before you installed 2013. Later, Ray

I've never had to do this, but I thought that if you copy the BBW.EXE file for an earlier version in the /Backup folder to the main BIAB folder, over-writing the newer one, it would give you back the earlier version.

I wouldn't advise reverting, as there isn't anything worse in BB 2013, and lots has been improved.

re: Simpler Bass on Jazz. If you are saying the bass parts aren't simple enough, there must be an install issue, because they are sounding 'very very simple' to me, ie just half notes on ballad 'a' section, and quarter notes on 'b' sections for example. Any simpler than that and it wouldn't be jazz IMO. As I said, I suspect that the correct files werent included for those simpler RT's, and that would be a patch in a few days. If you wait a day or so, I'll post an answer in this thread on that issue.

If you still want to revert, you would need to run the BB 2012.5 installer, and install and overwrite the c:\bb folder. Noone has done this before, and there would likely be some problems with it, but they would be probably minor. Anyway, I'd wait a couple of days on that, if you are wanting to get the Simpler Bass Tracks working.

>>> The SuperTracks seem to be worse - playing unpleasant (wrong?) notes often and in the upper registers that sound strange to me. I guess a better explanation is needed on better fretboard playing. Maybe it does not apply to STs?

There has been no change the SuperTracks bass playing, and in fact no new bass SuperTracks with this release (just piano and strings). So you're hearing the same thing as with 2012.5 . In regards to the other feature that you're talking about, that just refers to better fretboard display for REALCHARTS which only happen with REALTRACKS, and nothing to do with MIDI SuperTracks.

BTW, There are lots of new piano MIDI SuperTracks with many of them jazz piano ones, with artist Miles Black. If you want to revert to 2012.5 to get rid of them too, you would need to erase any r*.ST2 or r*.XT2 with a file date of September 2012 or newer.

BTW, here's a demo of
1. a new piano MIDI SuperTrack (an older piano style, that plays 4 in the bar chording)
2. the piano is the Hi-Q Acoustic Piano, included with BB 2013
3. the bass player is a RealTracks bass - this is the one that your are saying is "playing all over the place" - sorry I don't hear that at all... just hear half notes and quarter notes.

Thanks Peter.

I downloaded and re-installed 2013 again and ran a couple of test at varying tempos of the RT acoustic jazz bass (Very Simple). As I found earlier, there are plenty of eight notes throughout. Is there a demo you are using to test it as I would like to try it? Perhaps it is a setting I am using?

I'll wait a few days for the patch. I have never been able to use the RT bass except for the Gypsy style. I know there has been a few discussions about the bass and hope this will let me be able to use them on gigs.

Have you listened the demo above. This is just the regular bass, not simple. Is it too busy?

To me, that sounds way better than MIDI. Because you're hearing Neil Swainson, George Shearing's bass player for 10 years.

Yes that sounds nice. I do not have any songs at that tempo (150 max) but would love that bass player behind me. I hope you are right about the patch and it works on the slower tempos.

Thx

I've never had a problem installing a newer BiaB and have always found them to be an improvement over previous versions. I'd advise you to give BiaB it a chance.

However, immediately before installing anything, from BiaB to an update from Microsoft to a new utility to anything else that has a .exe or other potentially damaging extension to it, I always make a disk image with Norton Ghost (no connection to that company).

That way if something went wrong, I can restore my HD to the condition before the installation. Using disk imaging software IMHO is better than most back-up titles I tried before discovering Ghost because the imaging software restores your disk to the condition it was at the last image, including the OS (this theoretically can also remove a virus if it gets by your AV software).

It also always works, unlike the Windows System Restore app.

It has saved my computer more than once. Example: A couple of yeas ago I bought a guitar pedal that came with a bonus disk of Cubase LE. I hadn't tried Cubase in quite a few years, and thought I'd like to give it another try. So I clicked Ghost and made the incremental image (took 2 minutes) and installed Cubase LE. The installation went bad, and it didn't complete the installation. Rebooting the computer wasn't a help as it asked me to continue the installation which failed again. Removing the folder and re-installing did the same thing. After a few frustrating tries to get it to work, I simply restored the HD - and I was back to normal. I've done this with a couple of other products.

I also make a fresh disk image every month and an incremental addition every day.
