I understand that the ads can be nulled in YT simply by adding a couple of characters to the file name. Something like: filename.ads=nul. Anyone know?
I'm not talking a "pop-up blocker" in my browser. Just those little pests within YT.

That'd be great!
After all: users and artists/record companies are uploading content and Google takes the money on adverts. I know they are providing the storage and network capacity, but the amount of ads nowadays is ridiculous.
Come to think of it: I used to boycot movies on TV when I knew they where going to insert one (1!) comercial break in that movie. Nowadays they air a break every 15 minutes in a movie. Every 30 minutes in almost every other program. Foreign stations like Discovery and NGC even have more breaks. Whenever I want to watch a certain program (that's not that often) I just record it on the HDD of my satelite receiver so I can skip the commercials. A one hour aired show can be seen in full in about 40 minutes!

I'll tell you this: I use Firefox, with the plugins AdBlock Plus (using the default filter set) and NoScript, and I never, ever see YouTube ads. Makes my ladyfriend crazy, but she's the one using Safari.

Don't think it's possible to remove them from other browsers but I could be wrong!

Good tip, JBlatz, but I was referring to videos other than my own. I will definitely use your trick to protect my own YT videos. Thanks for that tip.

I use Firefox and didn't know about those add ons, I'll definitely check them out. On a related note, I have installed the FF video download add on and it works great with YT and the commercials don't save as part of the download, just the vid itself. One instructional vid I really like has overlays with notes from the producer written across the screen when it plays from YT but his notes didn't download and save either so it looks like those commercials are some kind of overlay, not part of the basic vid.
