Hi All,

I was watching an old South African TV series re-run the other night and in one scene the whole bunch is at a party and a brilliant Tenor SAX instrumental came up.

This song is now stuck in my head and I NEED TO KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS THE SONG.
I am busy setting up a backtrack for this and learning it. I actually want to get the original song/cd as well but obviously for that I need to know at least what the song name is and ideally who are playing this version

I really hope I am not violating any rules here but none of MY buddies can tell me although "it is on the tip of their tongues"!!!

If the old garde can have a listen I will be eternally grateful.

(If you are wondering, the language in the foreground is AFRIKAANS ...)

It was actually a Samsung .3ga file which is actually an MP3.

Sounds like Sleepwalk to me, Santo and Johnny about '59. Others might know better, I was only 9 then!

I'm older than John but it won't play for me either. You've piqued my curiosity so will somebody please send me the file? It says it's 4.2 Meg file-size but, in Media Monkey, it says length 0 (zero). Weird.

Played for me, but that file is not just music which is a distraction. But give sleepwalk a go, it's on youtube, the original version. I think replacing the steel / hawaiian guitar with a sax makes sense here.

Its not sleepwalk, although the backing is similar, in 12/8

It might be an original solo, sounds similar to a lot of 50's doo-***** songs. Melody starts off similar to "oh Darling" by Paul McCartney, which was meant to sound 50's doo wap.

can't help you any more.

John, please send me the .mp3, you kids are driving me crazy! I probably know every pop 50s song. My band played S&J's Sleep Walk to the point that I'd recognize it within a few notes.

Okay, I'm not sure by any means what it is, but I darn well know what it evokes, and that may be a clue. It sounds as if it may be an "original" pastiche. It has very strong elements of both "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" by Paul Anka and "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke, but not precisely either of them.

Well, it not Sleepwalk, but close

(I'll put that one in the arsenal as well though..., same emotions Tom...)

This is haunting me. I am now starting to listen to this clip over and over and over and over and over and ...(oh dang, did it again!!) JUST IN CASE I miraculously get stuck by a brainwave and just know ... hopeful thinking ...

Guys, this is fun, but I don't think we're gonna "discover" what the song is, because it sounds like any old song recorded in the fifties... mostly doo-whatever (the forum software wouldn't let me enter w*p... how about that).

I think Andrew nailed it as best we can... it is definitely NOT "Sleepwalk," and also is not "Put Your Head..." or "You Send me." Andrew had the same association I had, with the Beatles "Oh, Darling" for the first line, but the rest is vanilla doo ***** (Listen to BIAB Style "Carey128" or any 12/8 style.) IMO, it's the style, not the song... it's just a simple repetitive I-VI-II-V7 chord progression, with a sexy sax solo.

Oh, and no, it's not Italian... as stated, it's Afrikaans. (Sounds like a ***** video I once saw of John Holmes in Capetown...never mind).

I think the reason it sticks in the head is because we have all heard it an infinite number of times, in infinite variations.

Yep, Brad, I think you're right -- like I said, a pastiche (a lot like many BIAB demo songs, actually. ) And I edited out the reference to Italian when I went back over the thread and saw that it was Afrikaans. (Just so later readers of this thread don't think Brallan invokes Italian out of the blue -- nope, it was me.)

Mario, some seem to hear it. Sleep Walk has been eliminated?! I love this stuff. 50s was my heyday.
