Ok, first of all, I want to thank everyone who has tried to help me with this issue. I have used alot of forum space, so I will cut to the chase. There must be one little button or cable that I have wrong. Probably my mistake, as I have had more than enough help.

1. I have a satellite lap top with ONE HEADPHONE OUT, and ONE MIC IN. Also a behringer 802 if needed.
2. I want to record vocals in either BB or RB.
3. I want to HEAR the vocals and the soundtrack AT THE SAME TIME AS I AM RECORDING.

I have talked to Noel96, who says he can hear his vocals and soundtrack while recording in BB or RB.
I have tried just plugging in a mic into the MIC IN of the computer, and headphones into the computer, and can get VU readings on the INPUT, but cannot HEAR my voice. I have duplicated Noel96's prefs, and cannot hear it.
That's the simple way. I have also listened to many "currently used set ups", abaudio, and others who used the 802.
1. Out of computer to cd/tape in,
2. Out of mixer MAINS into the MIC IN of computer
3. Pushing (IN) of the cd/ctrl button and the cd/tape to mix button (OUT)
a. This appears to let me hear the soundtrack OR the voice. Good for setting the recording levels, but then so it will not go BACK to the computer, pushing the cd/tape to control button. I probably am missing something. ARRRRGH.

1. The only way I have been able to get it to work, (hearing both while recording) is how I did it originally.
a. Out of computer to channel one, panned left/music, vocals panned right, with one RIGHT OUT back to the computer. That way the music did not get re-recorded. Problem: Sounded bad to my ears with a hard pan like that, but was able to record.

I have had two other home recording studios before. I understand a bit. I have never tried to do it all like this with mostly software. I always had hardware. . . in here, out there, effect here, mix down, and send to a multitrack recorder on the computer to burn to cd.

I guess this is just new, and I don't get it. Thank you all for your patience, as mine is now gone.

Someone just tell me, again, what I'm missing, or what to turn on or off in prefs, or something. It can't be this hard. Once I get it, I will really be afraid to hit the "return to factory settings" button, I'll tell you that! It sounds like I shouldn't need more equipment at this point, but if I do. . . no problem.

Thank you in advance'
