Maybe I should put it another way:

If you go Styles>Edit>Misc, at the top right of the screen/box is a place to enter a tempo (metronome) number. Look at everything else in that screen, and they all are clearly settings - you check or uncheck, or specify, and you'd expect it all to take effect when you exited back out of through the windows.
The flyover for the tempo slot says 'default style tempo' . But my experience (see first post) is that it is precisely NOT a default setting. I'm not clear when , how, (even if) it actually takes effect.
