I have BIAB 2012.5 and I received today the 2 disks to install BIAB 2013 PlusPak I cannot install them because Norton prevents it based on the discovery of a worm named Sonar-heuristic in the set up file Anybody had this experience before?

Hi,
There is no trojan on the disc, it is a "false positive". If you can't seem to get Norton to leave it alone, you could run the installers individually yourself, by opening the installers folder and running them from there (which is all that setup.exe does).

yes, be aware of Norton, I'm no IT but I have heard a lot of horror stories about it, interfering with installations and things like that. Don't like it at all, therefore, I don't use it.

Simple solution to all this: 1. use a dedicated PC for music with no crap on it 2. disconnect from the Internet and turn off all malware progs, firewalls etc. when doing anything musical

I dumped Norton AV years ago - despite the fact that he stole my last name (No business connection or kinship with Peter Norton). It just got to slow and bloated with me. I do use Norton Ghost as a backup / disk imaging app and it works well for that. Notes (the real Norton - not that imposter)

Norton was great when Peter Norton actually ran the company. Peter Norton was an excellent programmer who always looked for efficiency in code. I remember entering assembler code from his articles in Byte magazine and from several of his books (from which I learned a great deal, but have now not used in way too many years). However, when he sold the company to Symantec, yet still allowed them to use his name for product recognition, things went downhill from there.

That may be true. But what Peter Norton was famous for was “Norton Utilities” which included things like UnErase, DiskOp, Wipe Disk, Wipe File, a diagnostic utility, disk caching, etc. It did not include any anti virus software until after Symantec had already bought the company.
And, FWIW, I have used Symantec/Norton a/v products for over 15 years and have no complaints.

Who needs a virus when you've already got Norton?
It's worse than most virus's you'll run into.

TOO funny. I am SO glad that at least one member has never had issues with Norton but I had LOTS of them and found it to be a NIGHTMARE to actually uninstall it. That was several years ago and I have blocked that misery out of my mind but I have a vague recollection that Norton buries a bunch of stuff way down deep in the registry and I had to obtain a special program that would FULLY uninstall it...because the uninstall routine that shipped with the software...back then...would NOT fully uninstall it.
I'm just sayin'
Best,
Jim

It's definitely easier to get rid of a virus than it is to get rid of Norton! Let's see, ... run the Norton uninstaller, ... go to the Control Panel and run the MS uninstaller, ... download the extra Norton uninstaller and run it, ... then download the pdf that lists all of the cryptic file names that don't get uninstalled with all of the above and manually edit the registry! Then realize it's still not gone, reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS. Find out you don't have any installs left on the OS DVD. Call MS and try to get a new authorization number. Stay on hold for an hour. Finally obtain authorization # after convincing them your ex wife was a zombie who worked for Wikileaks when she wasn't working for Asian Escorts, ... and that she had thouroughly corrupted your hard drives while simultaneously ruining your life! Reinstall all of your other programs and confirm that Norton is truly Gone! Breathe a sigh of relief and SWEAR to never use any kind of Norton product again!!!!!!!!

Don't mention Norton utilities. When I got my first computer in 2000 a bit of a late starter, I saw Norton utilities bundled with antivirus I think, in shop here for £60 quite a lot of money at the time, but went ahead and bought it.
I had a Lexmark printer at the time, wasn't able to get it to print properly, I ran Norton Utilities often and was in constant contact with Lexmark support about the printer.
Finally figured it out myself when I ran Norton Utilities it was changing something that was affecting the spooling or something on my printer.
Didn't run Norton Utilites any more and the printer worked perfectly.
A similar story with Go back software (software that takes a snapshot of your system constantly a bit like system restore only more thorough)
I bought it for £48 after seeing great reviews for it in a computer mag. Eventually because of a bug in it, I was totally locked out of my computer. Ok they did release a bug fix but too late to stop me having spent 30 or so hours reinstalling everything.
That is why I take with a pinch of salt any recommendations (especially for software) I see in a computer mag.
