Hi All,

Just wondering if it is possible to split BIAB up so that different parts of it can be put onto different internal hard drives. The method of "splitting" parts of the program up in say Native Instruments Kontakt, for example, is quite feasible and often done if somebody wants to put the main part of the program onto their C:Drive (First drive) and the sample libraries of Kontakt onto another drive - their second drive, for example, for faster access to the programs. OR.... does BIAB have to remain as a "Complete" package in order for it to function at all?... if you know what I mean.

You see, my initial intention was to configure my internal hard drive set up as follows:

Drive 1:(C:Drive/Boot = 1TB): OS, Reaper, VST's, apps, and BIAB.

Drive 2: Sample libraries (from Kontakt) and others.

Drive 3: Music projects.

Eternal hard drive for back up.

I am a little stumped now because the BIAB Audiophile edition is almost 850 GB of data. So now it is just not feasible to install it onto my 1TB C: Drive with the OS. Sure, I could get a 2TB drive to use as my C: Drive, but this would be a waste of money as well as space.

If BIAB CAN'T be split, then I will probably have to install it to its own, separate 1TB hard drive.

Also, are we allowed to copy the files that came with the BIAB hard drive onto a separate external hard drive for safe keeping and as a backup? Is this easily done? I am fairly new to PC's and I am frightened of messing up the data on the original BIAB hard drive if I try to copy it over to another external hard drive. I have not yet done any installation of BIAB because I need to quickly order a few more internal hard drives, and I have not yet fully read the whole manual that came with BIAB, if at all this information is in the manual. Haven't seen it yet.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Yes indeed. It's recommended that you have a back-up copy of your BIAB/RB drive.

I don't have the Audiophile edition but from reading these forums, most people who have this version run it from the USB drive. I also gather from these forums that the Audiophile version comes with both the lesser quality, smaller sized wma files as well as the hifi wav files. Because of this, I believe it's possible to install the 70 - 80 GB wma version of BIAB onto the internal hard drive and have the wav files fun from the USB drive when needed.

I'd imagine that someone who has the Audiophile edition will post their thoughts soon.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks Leon, Thanks Noel, for your help. Very much appreciated.

I've ordered a couple of internal hard drives for my computer and they should arrive tomorrow, hopefully. Haven't installed BIAB yet; Need to wait for the new HD's to arrive before I do that, and also hear what other Audiophile owners have done with theirs, ie, how they have configured their Hard Drive set up to accommodate BIAB.

Keep smilin'

I installed a separate 10,000 rpm internal hard drive for the audiophile RealTracks and RealDrums. My BIAB program runs from my boot drive, a SSD, and the RealTracks are on drive G:/BB

Thanks for that Matt. Okay, so I CAN split BIAB up and farm out portions of it to other drives. That's good news! I'm thinking I will probably do a similar set up as what you have described, but I will only be using 7.200 RPM Drives to keep my costs down a little. In the New Year, I'll be looking in to getting a good quality SSD and that frustratingly elusive Audio Interface!!!!

Yes, the program, RealTracks and RealDrums could even be on three different drives if you wanted to.
