Yes. You can import the MIDI file to the Melody (or Soloist) track. Then use the [menu] Edit-Copy Tracks feature, to (for example) move/copy selected channels from the MIDI file from the Melody track to the bass track. Since the bass track is then frozen (the command freezes the track for you), it won't get affected by generating new music.
Beautiful, that's exactly what I was trying to do. I saw where I could import to the melody track, but didn't know about copying to another track. I'll give it a try ASAP.
