I'm still struggling with setting up the drivers correctly. I downloaded ASIO4ALL and installed it. And when I select it as the driver in the Audio Settings and click okay, I get a pop-up error message as follows: "audio and/or DXi Output will be silent. The ASIO4ALL driver is not connected likely due to your using a soft-synth (like GS– Wave Table) for MIDI."
How can I correct this error to see if I can move this possibly a step forward?
Thank you so much. Tom
Did you click on the ASIO4ALL tray Icon and set it up?

I think John may have nailed it; when you use different drivers that themselves have options, those options must be set correctly before any setting in your DAW (RB or any other DAW) will work. It may be that ASIO4All isn't connecting to the device correctly in the first place.. so the problem lies not in RB settings (yet) but maybe ASIO4All settings.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Question: Does it matter what drive or directory a driver is installed? I presume the driver should be installed in the C Drive. But I have the Super-Pak BIAB version on a separate outside drive. Should any driver be installed on that outside drive.. or does that make a difference?
Update: I have a couple other audio recording/editing software packages installed: Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio, Sequel LE2 (Steinberg/Yamaha software).... On both of these programs, I am able to select my Steinberg ASIO (Yamaha) driver and my plugged in mic registers on the Meters... and I can record. It does look like I can only use the ASIO driver while only one of the programs is running... it won't install on two programs at the same time.... I follow the "same" procedure with Real Band, and it locks up.
I'm looking at all the suggestions above but for a non-techie guy, its a daunting process!

Update:
I have other audio editing/recording software installed on my computer including Sony Sound Forge Audio Recording Studio, Sequel LE2 (Steinberg/Yamaha).... I have installed the Steinbrerg ASIO driver on both and can record on both! (Not at the same time.. Only one program at a time with this ASIO driver.) But I follow the same procedure on RealBand and it locks up. Hm....
Also, in RealBand, I select Aud. Set and select the Steinberg ASIO driver. In the Tracks window, I select on track 1 a mono track. Then I see that the track is using the Steinberg ASIO driver. But still I cannot record! That’s progress... but I’m still stumped on why I can’t record.
Thanks.. Tom

I've been trying to see if I'm inadvertently using a soft-synth (like GS- Wave Table) for MIDI. I'm not sure where to look or what to look for exactly. But I did find that in BIAB I had selected DXi. So I unchecked that but I get the same error message. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/frown.gif
Any suggestions? Thanks.. Tom

DXi selection is a checkbox right under the Drivers in the MIDI Devices section.
What are your MIDI drivers (under MIDI Devices).
Check which 'Port' is being used for each track. (it should be listed under the track name, in Tracks view)
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I want to answer you questions. But I'm a bit confused as to what you are referring to. Are you referring to the selections/buttons that are associated with Band-In-A-Box or Real Band? Each of the two programs seem to have their own selections/buttons/drop-downs. And I'm not sure if those selections effect both programs or just the program where the selections/buttons/drop-downs are found.... Thanks.. .Tom

You are in Realband Forum so I was talking Realband. That DXi checkbox is what selects whether to use a default DXI (or VSTi) synth. You said earlier you didn't know where to check that.

OK... I think I'm with you now: in the input drivers box on the left side of the MIDI driver set up, there is nothing; the box is blank. The out put driver box has two entries: Microsoft MIDI Mapper and the second, Microsoft GS wavetable synth. The box below that is checked: re–route MIDI playback to default DXi/VST I synth.
Below that, the default DXI/VSTi send is: CoyoteWT with a vol trim of "0".
As to which port is being used by each track (if I have this right):MIDI out: Microsoft MIDI Mapper, CH 0.
OK ... I think that answers your questions. Thoughts? Thank you so much. Tom

Try MSWavetable synth (only) and click Move selected device to top.. Support has said this can solve some issues, just don't remember which ones. This may be one of them. The ports on the tracks should reflect this change.
If you still have problems; Try unchecking the DXi reroute box and see if issue persists.
