Hello All,

I found some good Cajun accordion midis, but they must have been recorded in real time- the rhythm is all over the place. Tried using the click track but tempo never changes. The help menu states to put the midi in track 1 and put a C note on each beat for the duration of the song in track 2.

Any C note? Beats me.

Advice is greatly appreciated.

Percy

C2 is often used (bass drum note) or Db3 (sidestick) to build a click.

You can play it and try to add a note where you think the '1' can be, but this may be an easier way;

You may need to convert the MIDI to an audio track first, but by using the ACW you can set a very defined tempo map .. even for severely wandering tempos.

You can't generate tracks in PT (other than realdrums) but the first part of the video should get you on your way for how to do a tempo map, as long as your version of PT has the Audio Chord Wizard included.

Hey Bob,

Always good to hear from you. Tried click-tracking again with a renewed focus on the 1 beat. Better results, but the midi file just has too much going on. Will try the ACW later on.

Thanks for the tip.

Bob,

I gotta hand it to you...

the ACW worked flawlessly!

I didn't realize that the tapping in of the tempo somehow alters (unlike the click-track) the tempo from bar to bar, yet, is essentially, sonically unnoticeable.

While I can no longer use the Style Wizard, I can now create additional Cajun accordion tracks with a couple of extra steps involved.

As always, thanks a lot.

Thank PGMusic
I didn't write it, just learned how to use it and how powerful it is.
It's another tool (extension) a LOT of others DAWs can't touch. When it first came out it semed like the 'feature' was it could guess the chord charts for you .. but it can do a whole lot more once you know how to use it.

Glad you got the hang of it.

rharv,

You should record a little video on this topic and get PG to host it. This is one feature of PG products that needs more advertisement and acknowledgement outside of these forums.

Very interesting Rharv...great little vid. Do you always have to convert the midi into audio first before using the ACW or can I go directly to ACW using the original midi file?

ACW works on audio, but if you have VST DXi softsynths it should convert it to audio for you as you proceed.
If you use external synths, it will need audio to work with.

Thanks Rharv, appreciate the clarification. I'm using all VSTi's and external modules, guess I'll need to convert to audio.

The external modules will need to be converted to audio. For this purpose you could use one temporary stereo track and mix them to there. I think the VSTi's will convert as the ACW launches and processes the song. It'll probably ask if you want to change the MIDI channels assigned to hardware ports to a softsynth if I recall correctly, before proceeding. If you recorded them to audio you can say no to this.
Then when done you can go back to the MIDI from the hardsynths if you want (and erase that temporary audio track).

I rarely have any tracks that are MIDI if I don't already have a tempo map.
