.
Not sure what you mean by "trio intro." You can write pretty much whatever you want for an intro. Could be 3-part harmony, or a 3-part invention. You can select almost any three instruments you like. Please explain what you want to do.

Not sure what version you have of BIAB.

In 2013 under help click Index, click index tab if needed.
Enter Chord List, then click result answer.

This will give you all of the chords you can use within BIAB.
This may clear up your question a bit.
Make sure you review this list.

I just received a recommended book on chord progressions.
I did see something about a trio. But could not find it.
If you examine the help file chords, you should get your answer.

I think J-Louis is probably referring to the "101 Riffs - Trio Intros" that are in the BB directory on my system, along with all the other "101" series on my hard drive...all very useful stuff, but I suspect that they may no longer be included in the software packages, so perhaps not everyone has them... not sure, I would ask PG support.

Anyway, to answer the OP question, yes, of course, they are very very useful as jazz intros, to just plug into your song (and start the actual chord progression at bar 5) or to study... and notice there are very nice WMA and MP3 descriptions in the directory as well. Are they by Oliver or Peter Gannon?

You are the one who understood the question :-)

How can include one of these trio intros riffs in a Band in a box song?
I can input 3 or 4 blank measures but how can I import a trio intro riff in the BiaB song?

Glad to help... The idea was easy, the actual implementation not so much -- took me a while.

Don't know how well you understand BIAB yet, but this project is a great way to get your feet wet on arranging, styles, editing, etc.

What I tried was simply to load one of the .MGX files from the "trio" directory, and then load a BB song, starting at bar 5. Load the song using the File menu choice "Import MGU song..." You will have to do some tweaking, depending on which song you are working on...For example, you may need to delete the Intro measures that came in with the song, usually 4 measures. Also, you likely will have to change the tempo and (especially) the style for the whole song, and will probably have to change they keys to match the intro to the song itself... there may be lots of other tweaks you need to do as well, but as I said, that's just part of learning what is a very complex system.

You might also want to start with a regular BB song, then add (via "Import MGU Song...") the trio Intro... don't forget to tell the screen which bar to Import TO.

Of course, the other option, depending on what you are working on, is to simply load the trio .MGX file, go to bar 5, and start inputting whatever chords you want.

There may be a way of cutting and pasting chords, etc. If so, I haven't found it... but if you find an easier way, please let me know. Hope this helps.

I gave it a try on the simplest option
Open a 4 measure trio intro in band in a box 2013
Then added a couple of chords for 8 measures...
Unfortunately the song plays only the 4 measures of intro back to back although the song is supposed to play measures from 1 to 12

I am surprised that this question did not get a reply from the PG music software designers... They should be able to tell us if it feasible or not to use a trio intro in a BiaB song, just a thought...

When you open one of the trio intros in Band In A Box it usually has several repeats. For example the first one has ten repeats:

This means that the melody and soloist tracks are actually 40 bars long so the first thing you need to do is to change the 10 to 1. This will delete all the repeats and prevent them from continuing to play over the rest of your song.

The song will start at bar 5 and you can then set the number of bars (e.g. 16) and repeats (e.g. 3) as per the following example.

Note that the style is currently disable so you will need to click on it to enable and/or change it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Richard

If you change 10 to 1 and add different chords and enable the style then the intro is playing according to the style, not the intro midifile
I think it is going to be very difficult to use a trio intro in a regulard song... too bad!

Hi J-Louis

It is definitely possible to use the trio intros in a regular song.

When you load one of the intros all the parts are recorded on the Melody and sometimes the Soloist tracks. The style is disabled.

If you select a style for your song and press F5 on bar 1 you can mute all the style parts (Bass, Piano, Drums, Guitar and Strings) and then re-enable them on bar 5. You could also achieve the same thing by appending a period to all the chord symbols in the intro bars since the intro is not using them.

Regards

You are a genious!

I just recently had a chance to apply your last advice. Enabling the style and putting a dot after each intro chord is the perfect solution.. Thanks a lot
