OK I now have BIAB EverythingPack installed - what a job that was!!!

OK I've entered some chords, had a play around and I can instantly see a real lack on PG music's part not to include basic getting started videos/tutorials. Ive watched their "videoTutoalPak" video but its very general and not that helpful to be honest for a pure beginning like myself.

Ive put a very basic set of chords together but the style I've chosen doesnt come with drums? Is there no way of adding drums to a style that doesnt come with drums?

Hi Paul,

There are some other videos found at ...

http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htm

Just scroll down the page a bit to find some of the older video tutorials. Even though some of these videos refer older versions of BIAB, they are totally relevant to the 2013 version. Whilst the program has grown significantly, the basic BIAB functionality and principles of operation have not changed a great deal over the last few years.

Youtube is also a good place to visit.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Paul!

You have lots of drums in the Everything pak. We need to know a bit about your setup.

What happens when you press play? What do you see and what do you hear?

What is your sound source?

Have you ever used any music software before and did it play drums?

THINGS TO TRY: Click on the STYLE button, all te way on the left, and try various styles.

Go to OPT>PREFERENCES>REAL DRUMS and make sure the Real Drums are turned on.

Yes RealDrums is turned on. I have so many styles to choose from, more than I know what to do with.

I selected a suitable style for "this little light of mine" = "_CMPFBHS Ac. Guitars & Bass, Hank Ballad"

This style doesnt come with a drum pattern and it looks like you cant add one either unless a midi file was imported no doubt.

I also found myself selecting a different style and I somehow changed the drum style to another one but couldnt find a way to go back to default and I didnt write down the drumming style. Seems easy to get lost in all these settings and hard to get back. I guess than will improve with time.

"This style doesnt come with a drum pattern and it looks like you cant add one either unless a midi file was imported no doubt."

That is partially correct. You can not assign an instrument to a track which has nothing on it.

This can be done however by using the new feature which allows you to bring in a midi track from another style - Right Click and "Select Custom Midi Style for this track".

You will find BIAB is like th Swiss Army Knife of music applications - generally 1 or 2 ways to work around anything.

If it's any consolation, I think this is one of the few styles that has guitars but no drums at all. There was another similar post about it a few days ago. PaulH, you just happen to have hit one that requires the extra step.

What part of BIAB do I right click on to give me that option? I've tried different places but not seeing what you are suggesting?

I found this but still cant add drums to this style and have no idea how this midi windows works, i'm just selecting anything and getting nowhere.

Yes you are in the right place.

Heck, Noel did a super job of illustrating all the submenus with this process, but I can't find it now. Perhaps he will jump in shortly.

So let me recap, If i select one of the few styles that has no drums, or guitar or anything else for that matter, I should be able to open up Midi Track Picker and with the right selection, "add" a new instrument in my current style?

Hi Paul!

I recently asked a very similar question on this forum and jcspro40 pointed me to the following link which was a very helpful and systematic primer an the basics of creating a song in band in the box.

https://www.youtube.com/user/tenic/videos?query=BIAB+Made+Easy

Hope this helps!

Hi Dan,

Thank you for remembering the post. This is the thread I think you mean. The post is the fifth last one (you need to scroll down a bit). You and I were working on a problem that JohnnyO34 had. (I've used bass instead of drums but the process is the same.)

... link to setting a midi track

Hope this helps a bit, Paul.

Regards,
Noel
