I posted in another thread about my dislike for the practice of saying "I don't want to offend you, but..." then finishing the sentence by offending you. But I like that T-shirt, and the quote at the top of the thread.

That may seem contradictory, but I think the difference is that at least the T shirt is honest about its intent. You immediately know where you stand with the person wearing this shirt.


Having said all that, I think you can get away with any amount of honesty if you do it in a way that preserves the other person's dignity. That way you never have to keep the peace through disingenuous communication, and you also never need to refrain from saying what needs to be said.
