Hi Andrew,

yup, the compatibility setting was already active - to no avail. The problem is solved now, anyway. Here is what happened:

For some reason I had trouble with MiniBurn and the Vista UAC - I obtained an error message, stating that some file could no be found; MiniBurn did not even try to start up then. I thus started RealBand with Admin privileges from an otherwise standard non-Admin user account, which made the error message disappear, MiniBurn shows up, yet now with another error message "There are no compatible CDR drives reported ..." and shuts down again. I even tried setting WinXP SP2 compatibility for MiniBurn, yet the problem persisted - which led me to the inquiry here.

Now, here is the reason why the problem persisted: Firing up MiniBurn from within an Admin privileged RealBand likely makes MiniBurn to be owned by the Admin, not by the standard user. The Properties/Compatibility may easily receive a checkbox for WinXP SP2 compatibility - yet that's associated with the user who launched Windows explorer needed to access the MiniBurn properties, which was in this case a non-Admin user.

If RealBand is launched as Admin from a non-Admin account, the WinXP SP2 compatibility mode for MiniBurn needs to get activated specifically for *all* users, which requires yet another checkmark in the properties/compatibility dialog.

Once I activated WinXP SP2 compatibility mode for 'all users', the problem went away and I am up and running again - thanks, Andrew.

I briefly checked on the reason that made me start RealBand with Admin privileges in the first place. I removed the WinXP SP2 compatibility for 'all users' again, leaving WinXP SP2 compatibility for the standard user active, and fired up RealBand as the standard non-Admin user. The problem still does not show up.

Setting WinXP SP2 compatibility for MiniBurn in the first place makes starting up RealBand with Admin privileges obsolet and solves the problem.

MiniBurn should create an appropriate message after the next patch release.

Thanks for the note, Andrew.
