I have upgraded from 2011 to 2013 this week and decided to get back to work with BIAB. I have inputed the chords for Six Days on the Road and picked the C_BOOGIE style. Just for the heck of it I thought I would try using the Soloist feature for the 4th verse where the lead guitar plays in the song. The solo that is generated seems choppy, out of synch with the song and sounds like its me playing the guitar (not very good)
If you watch the BIAB videos about the Soloist feature the solos sound great when you have a very jazzy chord progression. Am I missing something I need to do to make the Solist work well with my 3 chord rock songs?

First, assuming you are using midi, try regenerating the solo, you may get something better. Soloist works better on some styles more than others, and often not very inventive.
Then try the RealTrack soloists - dynamite.

A couple of other things to consider or try:
- If you are trying to emulate a solo in an existing version of the song, you won't get it with the BIAB soloist. I assume you realize that.
- If you have input the chords for the solo into EVERY bar, that may cause the soloist to sound choppy. Try putting in only the chords where they change. That will give the soloist a bit of "breathing room" and may smooth things out a bit.

How does one get to choose Soloist between Midi & Real Tracks??

Hi King of the keys,
What package of BIAB did you buy (e.g. ProPak, MegaPak, UltraPlusPak, etc.)? Knowing the answer to this question will make helping you with suggestions far easier because it will help identify what Realtracks you may or may not have.
Regards, Noel

I have the Megapak. I am going to try the idea of only having chords were they change.

You need to pick a good soloist for the job. By "good", I mean one where the genre (eg. country), tempo and feel (even vs swing) match. Version 2013 makes that easier, by sorting the list of RealTracks soloist from best to worst, based on the above criteria.
For example, for C_BOOGIE, you would want a soloist that is country or pop, medium fast tempo, and swing feel. What soloist did you pick? Also, soloists higher than 361 are "RealTracks" and less than 361 are MIDI ones.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.
