Greetings, folks -

I just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the well-wishes I received. My surgery was successful. The doc took some bone from my hip to fashion into a replacement disc, and then replaced my C4/C5 disk in my neck. He goes in through the front (which seems counter-intuitive), but that way they minimize risk of nicking the spinal cord (I'm not sure which notes actually make up the spinal cord...)

Since I had the same thing done on C5/C6 and C6/C7 last year, I now will have two scars on my throat from the surgeries. My doc is good about cutting in the natural crease of the neck so as to minimize the scar's appearance.

I'm home on a bunch of pain drugs, but for the pain of the surgery itself. I'll be working remotely from home for several weeks before I actually go back into the office (I'm blessed that they let me do that). I have to wear my cervical collar for 6 weeks. I've got a doctor's appointment this afternoon, so hopefully he can tell me when I can have a shower rather than sponge bath.

Again, thanks so much for all the well wishes.

John
