Maybe this film has already been promoted here on the forum, maybe not, but I just watched "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music," and want to recommend it.

A superb documentary on one of the greatest engineers on all time, largely responsible for records from Bird and Diz, Lester Young, Tito Puente, Ray Charles, Ruth Brown, Bobby Darin, Coltrane, MJQ, Monk, Les Paul, Otis Redding, Cream, Layla Sessions, Yes, ELP, Zep, Allmans, Skynyrd, Aretha, et cetera ad infinitum, up to Bonamassa.

A terrific, moving and inspirational film. Tom died in 2002. Many clips from this film, and other Dowd clips, are on YouTube, but this film, which I got from NetFlix, is top notch, and I would try and watch the whole thing.
