During editing (audio) RB either
a. moves chunks of audio around
b. adds, edits or deletes a section of audio.

So that 'undo' works, RB has markers everywhere a 'chunk' is used, and keeps anything you tossed in a 'temp audio' area incase you undo back and need it.

So the track ends up as a linear bunch of 'chunks' or silence. Each of thee has a marker.
If you hover over the track number you can see how many 'Events' are on an audio track. If it's more than 1 you have chunks of audio.
Consolidate command makes everything on the track one continuous chunk (if you highlite whole track and use consolidate command)
It may help. It was something quick to try that I could think of.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
