this may have been wished for before but I'd love to have the option of exporting the various components of a drum kit on separate tracks so I have more control of them in the mix.

This has been tossed around for a while now. It seems to be a great idea. My biggest fear would be the size of audio files it would take to house all the RDs in multitrack format, plus the power it would involve to render them.

If one wants far greater power over separate drum tracks, midi is tha way to go. Most midi drum modules allow multiple track output these days. Getting Biab, and especially RB to play nice with Jamstix and such would be powerful in this regard.

do you mean the size of the files delivered to us with BIAB or the size of the exported tracks? seems like the exported tracks for any given song would, at worst, double the number of tracks if you assume 4 or 5 tracks for drums.

This is possible, I managed to get the separate components of a drum kit in wav and midi files but it was so long ago I cannot remember how I did it!!
I believe one way was opening a BIAB project with RB and then there is a setting in RB which gives you the option of getting the separate drum components in RB.
I also think I managed to do it in BIAB but cannot remember.
Someone from PG Music should know.

Please let us know if you find out how you did that, Pete. If it works, not only would this work in RealBand, but then I assume it would be possible to Drag 'n Drop separate tracks to any other DAW.

And we are talking RealDrums here, correct? As far as I know, they are recorded as one complete kit into one audio file, and thus cannot be separated.

Matt,

I have just found the MGU file from 2011 and I used RealDrums (RockHardModernEv8^2-ClsdHt,OpHt) in BIAB. I cannot for the life of me remember how I did it but this is a file output: (excuse the editing)

Song File Name: Big Wall rockerTrackExport

I'm sure it also involved Realband somehow. And Like I said I have the separate drum components as midi AND wav files. Wish I could remember!!

Right! Here's what I've got so far. Remember I am using RealDrums (RockHardModernEv8^2-ClsdHt,OpHt) in BIAB.

Starting in BIAB:

Solo the drum track in BIAB.
Select File
Select Make a standard midi file
In midi file type select Drums on separate tracks
Select a destination and file name.

This creates a midi file you can then import into RealBand with the drums on separate tracks.

So, open RB, select import and select the midi file and the drum components are on separate tracks.

Pete

How i got the midi tracks to wav files I aint figured yet.

That is cool, and Rb also has the ability to split a midi file into parts. Just remember though that the OP wanted RDs on separate tracks, and that is not possible without re-recording them all on separate tracks

yeah, I'm def looking for separate RealDrums on separate tracks and not midi.

I'd be surprised if PG would have recorded all of those RealDrums tracks onto a single track. And, if they mic'ed and recorded them separately I doubt they would have mixed them down and not retained the separate recordings. So I'm hoping they have them all in the vault and may break them out for us in the future!

John,

I know it's probably not of any help but the separate midi files created by the process I stated above can be converted to separate wav files in RealBand.

Pete is right, and if you use a very high end drum sample program it can sound incredible. Midi can be really cool but it really boils down to what media you run them through.

I took the instructions above and copied it to a word file and placed it in my tips and tricks binder. I use a lot of Midi drums for both cover songs to get the original feel, and also on original songs so i can get a better mix. I love RDs they sound reall good, but i like to mix the drums sounds a little better on most songs.

The question would be are the midi drums converted RD's? ... or are they the replacement midi drums associated with the style if no RD's are available? I would guess it is the latter.

Maybe so, but when you did the "File --> Make a standard midi file", I don't think it converted the realdrums to midi. It just grabbed the matching midi drum pattern for the style and rendered that. I just tested it on a super simple drum kit (NashvilleWaltzSw^6-a:HiHat , b:Sidestick, Hihat). The rendered RD wav file and the rendered standard midi drum kit are completely different.

Maybe someone from PG Music can confirm that you are right, though.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
