Cannot imagine that most who frequent "Off-Topic" will have much interest, but...

I have a "new CD" for download - for FREE.

It's all BIAB RealTracks - except for the vocals, of course (and an occassional acoustic guitar track).

http://floydjane.com/Seconds.htm

IF, by any chance you were to download it and burn a copy or put it on your iPod,
and have a couple of listens,
I think there are some interesting things to "note"...

It "holds together well" - "as a band". The songs don't sound like 12 different bands playing 12 different song.

That being said, they also do not "all sound the same" - or for that matter, no 2 songs make you think
"That sounds like the same tracks from that other song!" (IMO)

So, at least for my purposes, it is nice to find that BIAB can produce a 12-song CD that is both
"consistent/cohesive" and "varied enough to stay interesting"...

(If you don't find this to be the case... you're welcome to comment otherwise..)

Well...not really my genre to comment much.

But...you got some good stuff there and I gave a quick listen to a few of them.
You have a great voice and it caters to the genre perfectly.
Mixes were good and vocals are up front as I would mix them.

Wish I had a good singing voice like yourself and many others here.
To me, my voice always sounds like a dull chain saw.
Maybe in my next life.

Keep up the good work and good luck with your endeavors.

Carry on....

You've got a good sound going and I think you did great job putting it all together. Isn't great that BIAB allows us to complete the full band sound that really is too expensive for most of us to even consider. I sampled most of them and I think I have heard a few of them in the User Showcase section.

As chulaivet said above, fine vocals and mixing. Congratulations from me to you, the CD is a major accomplishment.

Hopefully I'll have my CD done in month or two. I was hoping to complete it before FAWM and RPM, but it will have to wait until February is over.

I am still listening -- very enjoyable and impressive. All of the songs are really good sounding, for sure.

Ha, ha -- I am ending up listening to all of them. You are a good writer of these types of songs. Well done!!!

Edit: What's your setup? What mic do you use? Do you have room treatment, good monitors? Those of us here could learn a lot from you.

Hi Floyd
a very generous gesture, Sir!
Seems to me that C&W is where all the "Music" has gone. It has tuneful songs, interesting, thoughful and often humorous lyrics and uses REAL instruments and doesn't run at 280 bpm (lol).
I played all these tunes a week or so ago and now I can DL them into my Sony Walkman.
I guess I "like" 8 out of 12 which by modern day standards is pretty good. The remaining 4 I enjoy listening to and trying to figure out how you got there, but the lyrics are a bit hard to take.(a personal aside only. They are great but close to home)
Not my usual genre, of course, but you are starting to convert me, so much so that my first guitar Instrumental that I can put on here (because it HAS to be an original) is almost ready. After some "schooling" from you, it has 7 tracks in the backing, which I never thought possible. I got lost once or twice along the way and it may be a cacophony when you hear it but you gotta start somewhere. Laters.
Best regards
Ian

Floyd,

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! You have done a wonderful job on this. I am impressed with the songwriting, the arranging, mixing, everything!

This is extremely helpful to those of us who are working on our music and looking for the best ways to integrate BIAB into our songs. If you wish to share any additional details about your process, mixing, RealTracks used, pretty much anything I for one would welcome that!!!

Thanks again for sharing this!

John

Some of my questions would be...

- did you use existing RealStyles or did you create your own combos of RealTracks?

- did you do much work on the exported RealTracks?

- what DAW do you use?

- what plug-ins do you use for EQ, Reverb and other effects?

- did you use any special software for mastering your CD?

- what type mic did you use for vocal recording?

- describe your recording room. any room treatments?

- what about your mixing? what studio monitors do you use or do you use headphones?

- do you double-track your vocals?

- anything else you can share about your workflow, process, tools?

Sorry for the long list and don't feel obliged to answer any or all but I'd sure enjoy the read if you were to decide to reply!

Floyd,

I listened to a bit of "Ain't Goin Nowhere" and am thoroughly impressed. Excellent job all around, especially the harmonies.

Floyd - I think it's outstanding, which is saying a lot for an album that's not my genre of choice - I love the slide guitar sounds - where they recorded in real time, or piano rolled in ?

I would welcome that also - being a newbie that wants to some day produce such quality material with BB/RB/RT

Now - to stir up the pot - when so many people are willing to give away such great music - it seems to me like the only way for a non-famous musician to make money as a musician is live performance and lessons. (unless of course you're an outstanding pop act with an outstanding visual show and performance, and attracting a crowd that has access to some money and doesn't realize how much good free stuff is out there if they spend some time looking for it.

First, I'd like to thanks those who have taken the time to "have a listen" and especially those who have commented. It's certainly appreciated. I thought there was a chance i would get no comments to this...

Second... there have been some questions about "how I do things"... I intend to give answers to those (the best I can)... It may take some time to get that posted... but it's coming...

Wow, have to say again... I appreciate everyone "listenin' in". John - hope you are in "full heal" mode. Don... if I can bring you a "touch of joy", that pleases me to no end...

I thought I might answer a few things as I "prepare the rest"...

This is just "the start". I have a lot more that I am "polishing"...

>>>>>>>Joe V asked:

Practically EVERYTHING you hear on these songs are RealTracks. There are a few acoustic guitar tracks that I recorded and one small
electric guitar lick. I don't do midi.

>>>>>>> What RealTracks are used?

All of the songs on the CD have been posted in the Showcase over the last 4-5 months. I always list the RealTracks that are used.
I think the easiest way to find them, if you are interested, is to go to the "Showcase list"
http://www.pgmusic.com/user-showcase/
and sort by "Artist Name" so all the floyd jane songs are together.

More to come...
