The first link above says that it will be $59 for full and $29 for upgrade, but the Tracktion site doesn't mention any prices on the purchase page. They don't have that page up yet, apparently.

Tracktion was one of the first DAWs I played with. I remember liking it a lot, and planned on purchasing it until version 2 put it out of my price range. It's good to see the original team pick it up again. It seems to run OK on Vista. It took a while to load up the VSTis - it made multiple attempts to reload modules, and each attempt popped up a dialog box, each requiring an "OK" button to be clicked.  It's was a bit hard to figure out the navigation - there's a lot of context-sensitive stuff that requires the right things to be clicked before they appear. After cracking open the manual, things started making sense. I don't think it'll draw me away from my current DAW, but it still seems a nice application.

I have v2 that I got for free and the only thing I use it for is "Final Mix" plugin. I went and registered with Tracktion and was going to update. "Final Mix" and all other 3rd party plugs are no longer part of Tracktion. This confirmed by Woody @ Tracktion. Too bad.

I picked it up some time ago for the $19 final blow out price. Unfortunately I suffer from the Win 7 64 bit "poof crash" where right in the middle of something, no warning, the Traction window just disappears. It still sits in the system tray but won't reopen. You have to manually close it in task manager. This problem is well known in the Traction community so I forgot about it.

So Woody said the previous version plugs won't work with the new version? I can understand that for whatever reason the new guys can't include them going forward but normally if you already have the plugs they would work with the new version.

From what I can tell, the Tracktion plugins are tied to whatever version of Tracktion you have. When my other DAW's scan those VST's, I always get an error message that they can only be run with Tracktion. So I wonder if the plugins were third party and rights didn't transfer over to the new company.

Hmmm. I have version 3 and wouldn't want to lose Final Mix or any of the other Mackie Plugins either.

Unfortunately not – Mackie still owns the plugs they included with T3. We chose too leave T4 a 'blank canvas' - keeps the price down as we don't pay any third party royalties – plus we got a lot of feedback that people prefer to customize the environment themselves rather than be given a bundled 'sampling' of other content. We will be working on our own FX and VI's for the future. Thanks again for the support.
