The only tip I can think of is to pay attention to your markers.
Some find it easier to use the Bars window for the original selection, so everything stays in sync.
By using 'From-Thru' as I suggested you get more control over the edit start/end points .. but if you don't set these right things can get out of sync. For instance pasting repetitions of a selection that is 2 clicks off will accumulate, and be 6 ticks off by the third repetition ..
so pay attention!
