I'm not trying to keep this thread going but something interesting has happened.
I loaded up IE to do some browsing and when I wanted to come here to PG, my free McFee site advisor kept throwing up a dangerous site warning. I tried other sites I know and trust and same thing. Hmmm...got me thinking.
Maybe it got corrupted some how. Anyway I un-installed the program and hey presto! Chrome is working like it used to. I've typed this whole post without one "unresponsive pages" freeze up.
I hope it's fixed.

You uninstalled WHICH program? If you're talknig about McAfee, ... it was corrupted before you ever installed it.
McAfee and Norton are two programs I'd never recommend to anyone.
But that's just me.
