Is it something that Power Tracks Audio can do that Real Band can't or is better suited for?

I'm relatively new to PG products, and owner of BIAB and RB 2013, so I'd like to know if it's worth acquiring also PTA?

I'm all ears!

Hi Lt.

The two programs are almost identical, except that RealBand can generate RealTracks whereas PowerTracks can only generate RealDrums. The only thing which PT has over RB is the TC HELICON harmonizer, though BiaB does have this.

Realband has the TC Harmonizer also now.

PowerTracks is designed to be a good, basic DAW, but you have to create (or import) all your own tracks, whereas RealBand incorporates the automated track generation capabilities of Band-in-a-Box (RealTracks, MIDI harmonies, styles, etc).

Can the harmonizer in RB be used in real time while recording or is it used post recording to add harmonies to a dry vocal track?

Just post recording.

You can generate automatic harmonies to the chords of the song, or you can specify the melody as a MIDI track.

Well, looks like I'm already all-set with BIAB and RB.

Thank you for your kind words of advice.

Yours very truly,

The harmonizer in Realband (and BIAB and PowerTracks) does not work in real time. It needs to have an audio track available, from which it will generate additional tracks for the harmonies.

Here's why I have both;
1. For live play PT is more streamlined and gives me a little more viewing space.
2. I can sort of have 2 instances of RB open for editing.Example. I have 200+ songs in my live repertoire but I have two versions of each song. One is for stereo output one is for 8 channel output. The only difference in the 2 versions is the output assignment. Otherwise the are the same.I've decided that I don't like the kick drum I've been using and have found a much better one.I'm in the process of changing the kick drum on 200 songs. This is quite a process.
1. choose my kick drum style I made
2.generate a midi drum track
3. convert this drum track to audio
4. delete the old kick track
5. save the song.
Now when I'm done I have to think about doing this to the versions for 8 outs.
All I do is open RB & PT.
1. Minimize both programs so one is at the top of the screen and one is at the bottom.
2. open the corrected song in PTs & the same 8 track version of the same song in RB and drag the new kick from PTs to RB.This will replace the old kick track.
3. save
4. ctrl-F8 in each program to open the next song.
It's very quick.
