Here's why I have both;
1. For live play PT is more streamlined and gives me a little more viewing space.
2. I can sort of have 2 instances of RB open for editing.Example. I have 200+ songs in my live repertoire but I have two versions of each song.One is for stereo output one is for 8 channel output.The only difference in the 2 versions is the output assignment. Otherwise the are the same.I've decided that I don't like the kick drum I've been using and have found a much better one.I'm in the process of changing the kick drum on 200 songs.This is quite a process.
1. choose my kick drum style I made
2.generate a midi drum track
3. convert this drum track to audio
4. delete the old kick track
5. save the song.
Now when I'm done I have to think about doing this to the versions for 8 outs.
All I do is open RB & PT.
1. Minimize both programs so one is at the top of the screen and one is at the bottom.
2. open the corrected song in PTs & the same 8 track version of the same song in RB and drag the new kick from PTs to RB.This will replace the old kick track.
3. save
4. ctrl-F8 in each program to open the next song.
It's very quick.
