I heard about an interesting law about numbers. If there is a number that represents the total of something (e.g. number of views of your youtube video, how many records somebody sold), and we want to know what the FIRST NUMBER of that number would be, one would think that there is an equal chance of each of of the numbers 1-9 showing up as the first number.

But it turns out that is incorrect. The odds of '1' appearing as the first number is about 30% !

If you want to see that in action, you could look at the number of posts in each of our forums. This is posted on this page http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?Cat=0
8 out of 30 numbers under the column 'posts' begins with a 1, which is about 30%

Same thing for the numbers under the column 'threads' 8/25 begin with the number 1, that is also about 30%.
Same applies for the number of views or replies to a forum thread. It works as long as the range of numbers has a big range from smallest to biggest (that have more digits in the biggest one than in the smallest one)

There is a good explanation of that here
