Probably 3-4 times in the past few days. I just close the program and start again. No real pattern as to why that I can determine so far. Windoes 7 64 bit. Had no crash issues with Powertracks 10. Overall though this is a MAJOR upgrade (guess it should be after I waited 7 years!)

It could be connected to a plugin. Next time it happens, make a note of which VSTs and VSTi you're using at the time. See if you can narrow it down to one which is in use on every crash.
Another thing which PT doesn't always seem to like is multiple versions of the same plugin running. For example - if you need two reverbs, try to use two different VSTs instead of the same one loaded into two different slots.

Will do thanks for the tips. I am running a soft synth as a midi out device--- I will try using another one or the Coyote version that came bundled with PPA 2013.

To also expound on this effects processors like reverb, chorus should be used in effects loops as opposed to track inserts.Dynamics processors like compressors and gates should be used as track inserts.

Hello to you all,
I am totally new here and with Powertracks I've just installed the latest program. Never used a similar prog before so it is hit and miss. I am trying to play some midi's, some work and play fine others make the program crash. My Windows 7 - 32bit PC is connected via 'To Host' with a Yamaha PSR950 keyboard. No trouble with playing WAV or MP3 files so far. Can't find an answer in the extensive manual. Most of it I don't understand anyway.
Please help regards DickR

The problem could be a number of things. Try using the standard Output Midi Driver Microsoft WaveTable Synth via the internal Soundcard which is usually installed as standard with Windows 7. If this works then there would seem to be some conflict with the way in which the Yamaha PSR 950 is setup to receive certain Midi codes. Please provide more information.

Thanks for you reply LynB,
The weird thing that happens is like I record a midi as test using my connected keyboard (host to USB)Rewind and play, no problem, sound comes out the keyboard. I save it as a ...seq or as a midi 0 or 1. Reload that seq or midi back in start play.... crash every time. I have many midi's created over the years and collected also many. Some of them just play fine and with others the program crashes. I have honestly no idea what goes wrong.
Regards Dick

Yes a puzzle. It sounds to me that you are recording Midi to Audio by using your external keyboard and outputting Audio back through to your keyboard. Your drivers would seem to be both IN and Out to your Yamaha keyboard. Try another driver to output through the soundcard - you will still get the MIDI recording but this will divorce the IN/Out process from the Keyboard. This may not help BUT.....

Try disabling MIDI thru (on the keyboard and on PT). Maybe a MIDI loop (?) If MIDI goes out to keyboard from PT, gets routed back (via Thru settings) from the keyboard to PT, and PT in turn forwards it to the keyboard .. and the keyboard returns it .. doesn't take long to see how this could be problematic.
Wierd thing is that from the description this seems random. Random always complicates things. From math problems to computer problems. See if you can do a little troubleshooting and narrow it down.
When a file does this, open another file, then re-open the file that had problems. See if any settings seem amiss before hitting play (check Thru settings mentioned above for one).
It probably isn't a random event, there is likely some setting that changes. We just gotta find it. Maybe the original MIDI had a sysex message or controller message and it has been inherited in the seq files. Lots of obscure ways this could happen. But we need more clues.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thank you very much for these suggestions and the brainwork. I will try things out over the weekend and will come back with the results.
