Hello all I've just started to play with this T RackS CS which came bundles free with BIAB and IK multimedia. Seems promising in that it can increase volume of my quiet tracks once mixed. This seems to be able to fix that. However, as I'm playing my song through it i'm getting loud hissing over my song at regular intervals. It's unusable in its current form because of this hissing. Seems like it's deliberate, something you'd expect from a trial / unregistered program but mine is all registered so I'm not sure whats going on? Anyone know about this? Thought I'd ask here first. Thanks again. Paul

If you check the "show chain" button at the top right you can see all the modules that make up the preset Loud and Clear. You probably haven't got all of the modules registered. The custom shop is a neat sales gimmick of IK- Multimedia to get you to buy those missing plugs.

As I'm playing with it I'm starting to understand the intention. Basically I have the base program with the free EQ. The rest I need to buy! Mmmmm not so good. But one thing I've discovered is it livens up my mix alot at least in volume. There's so much choice in music software that I'm wondering if IK Multimedia is worth it or can I find similar in the full version of Studio One?
Looks like this T Racks can only edit one track at a time. So if I wanted a better bass track I would have to export as wav from BIAB, opening it up and edit with T racks then important and mix with Studio One. It's also is a good tool for editing final mixdowns to add a finishing touch. Does that sound right?

Paul,
I have been using BIAB for about 7-8 years for making backtracks for our lil ol' church band. I started using T-Racks to master the tracks. I loved it...easy to use, great results. However, I've been a user of Presonus Studio One since version 1.0. As S1 Pro has begun to mature, the mastering suite is superb. As always, there is a learning curve but if you are familiar with S1, you'll pick it up quickly. I have virtually stopped using T-Racks and use S1 exclusively.
If you have S1 Pro, give it a shot. I think you'll be happy.

I must admit I like the vintage compressor and also the linear eq. I don't much like their sales system but they do have some nice offers from time to time, and with the custom shop you can download and try the plugs before buying them. If you for instance select a preset you like and check the chain, you can decide which modules you will need to get that sound. I do believe that you could use TRacks as plugins directly in BiaB, or at least in Realband. As I do my mixing and tweaking in an external DAW I can't be sure on that. You will however need a separate instance for each track, which ever way you go.

Paul, I'm curious about the statement in your original post that said, "... T RackS CS which came bundled free with BIAB and IK multimedia".
I don't recall T-RackS ever coming with BIAB. The answer doesn't matter to your question, but I'm wondering now if I missed something. When did you get this? Thanks.

Hi Matt
It all came when I installed BIAB. Part of the installation required installing IK Multimedia, and through signing up for a new IK Multimedia a/c I guess thats how I got the freebies? At the time I was a bit lost with it all because installing everythingPAK took a long time and I wasn't familiar with what was exclusive BIAB vs 3rd party plugins and software.

Hi Tom
I only have Studio One 2 and not the pro. I'd be happy to buy Pro if it gave me everything I need. Problem is I don't know what I need as I'm learning on the fly. But I prefer to have everything under one program rather than running multi programs. I'll have a look again at the Pro but in a nutshell whats the real benefit?
I have no idea how to master either, I'm just playing around at the moment, trying to boost volume to quiet mixes. I def would like to beef up the bass more in my tracks as well as enhance the stereo field. Would I be right in thinking that you first create the mixdown of all the tracks into one file and then bring that files back into Studio One to enhance it for final mix?

Matt, only sampletank is bundled with BiaB. The rest you get from the Ik-Multimedia site in the form of freebies, as part of their sales strategy. You only end up needing more to get the results you want.

Thanks Paul and Chris. That makes sense.
I'm OK without T-RackS, since I use Ozone.

I've just watched all six videos from Presonus Pro mastering clips HERE. Yep, that seems like the version I need and I've learned a thing or two about mastering also.

Late to the party...again, but I had a similar experience while recording only to find that the mic on my webcam was bleeding into the mix. Probably not related but you may want to confirm what inputs are hot.

Paul,
I believe there is a free 30-day Studio One Professional demo. I'm not sure if you have to download S1 Free first or if your Artist version will allow you to download the 30 day Pro demo. In any event, it's a risk free way to check it out.
Between the greatest software program ever written in the history of mankind (Band in a Box)and S1, and your abilities, you can make some great music from start to finish.

Tell you what chaps, making music is so much fun.........and time consuming. Apart from the odd day here and there, I've been at this (on a hobby part time basis) since Jan 1st. I now have a growing list of more stuff to buy to take me further, when funds permit of course! So, thanks for your posts, I'm now steering away from IK Multimedia and aiming my sights at Studio One Pro.

PaulH doesn’t BiaB still come with a 10 band eq? I use BiaB on a 64 bit Win 7 system so I can’t get at those DX effects. That was my go to eq when I was 32 bit.
Also if you google free eq, or free compressors or free what evers you will find a lot of them. The price is right for sure however be forewarned as the freebees can run from excellent to terrible. Some you may not be able to load or may cause BiaB problems. So load one at a time and play with it. If it doesn’t meet your needs or it causes problems just delete it and choose another. This is what I do in my DAW.
Good luck.
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?

I always suggest learning to use the plugins and tools you have before running out and buying a bunch more. If you crack open the books and use the bundled plugins in RB you might find out they are just fine for you needs, at least for now.
You mentioned using EQ to raise volume. I believe that is the function of compression and master limiting.
A proper way to get a bit more volume is to mix a song so that you get a clean clear balanced mix, and then keep the gain on the faders out of the yellow for the most part, then place a master limiter on the master output buss and use the output gain of the plugin to boost the signal till you are happy.
Just remember to keep it out of the red.
A tad of compression on individual tracks helps as well.
EQ is for taming frequencies, not volume control.

Just read this post and the hissing sound at regular intervals is used by some manufacturers to remind you that you only have a demo and to get rid of this hiss you have to buy the full product. It usually says this somewhere in the Read me files or before you download.
