Pleeeeeeeeeeeeze Peter. Make this the year that BB goes 64 bit. Being able to work solely in BB, rather than repeatedly resorting to 64 DAW alternatives would be terrific. WISHING, WISHING, WISHING. Mal

Most other DAW's have both 32- and 64-bit, and you can choose to install either or both.
I agree, it would be nice to have 64-bit, for both BIAB and RealBand. I tried to use Session Horns in the 32-bit Kontakt VSTi the other day, but ran out of memory (I'm guessing because it loads a 1 1/2 GB soundset). I could enter the MIDI notes and listen to the result, but could not render the result either to a track or WAV file; it kept telling me it ran out of memory. I've got 8 GB on my computer, so there's plenty of available memory.
Everything worked fine, however, on the same machine doing it in a 64-bit DAW using the 64-bit Kontakt VSTi.

A SUPER BIG +1 John, I ran into the same problem using my old 32 bit machine and Kontakt’s choir. I could only do two measures at a time before I ran out of memory, record two measures, save to wav, and then repeat the process. What a PITA! As you know although you have 8 GB of ram a 32 bit program can only access up to 3 GB at the most. I would love to be able to use my good sound sources in BiaB but I can’t do to this memory limit

Exactly my point; a 64-bit version would have access to the full 8GB.

I'm using a very big computer ...... I do a lot of video editing and have a high spec NVidia video card. Apart from photo and video work I write and record a lot of my own music as well as re-compile cover tracks.
BB is invaluable as a creative tool and I have championed this software ever since the first floppy disk ... (anyone remember them)?
I love the software, wouldn't be without it.
BUT
It's time for 64 bit. Just think Peter ........ the whole world will flock to your site to purchase a 64 bit version.

It's finally time. There are no more viable 32-bit computers in the market, and none have been sold for over five years.

Right, the world has gone 64-bit. Many of us are using lots of VSTi's and multi-track vocals that need to access higher quantities of RAM. 32-bit is just too limiting these days. This is an area where PG needs to make a concerted effort to stay current.

Thank you all for your responses. I know that most DAW's are now offered at 64 bit and 32 bit. Maybe you know of one that is not yet 64 bit. If the team are working on a 64 bit version of BB, I hope they leak some info. I might then just be able to contain a modicum of the restless anticipation. WOW .... What a day that will be. My wife is going to flip when she sees me glued to the keyboards.

Great post,
I submitted the same topic last year and got a mixed response. MarioD - you were on board.
Ableton 9 went 64 bit some weeks ago and I am not sure about Protools but 64 bit is essential to utilize more that 3GB RAM.
I have 24 GB Ram on a Win 7 PC and cannot use Kontakt and the wonderful sample libraries I own with BIAB because of BIAB's 32bit 3GB RAM restriction.
Of course we can export a midi track to our 64bit DAW and use our 64 bit plugins but it would be great if we could use these plugins with more than 3GB RAM within BIAB

Just a tip if you want to use 64 bit with BIAB.. Use something like LoopMidi (free) which creates as many virtual midi ports you like, and then run a host, Like Forte (latest version is 64 bit) or Cantabile (my preference - 32 or 64) to load a "rack" of VSTi's.. Set the tracks in BIAB to use the virtual midi ports and off you go... You can also use VSTHost http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm a no frills free VST host.... Dennis

it would be nice to update the interface too, to look more modern like the other DAWs, with dockable panels and a clean look (like cakewalk sonar for example appears)... and right re 64bit a must-have moving forward, to avoid limitations

+1 on having both 'classic' choice to keep the look as it is, as Well as something bright and shiny/modern looking; sometimes the new look of software is a step back, so nice to have choices (eg a skin/install choice)
beta-test, get feedback during gui update, I'd keep the same buttons in the same place, just mostly cosmetic look update for glossy black/grey look like modern DAWs would be nice.

+1 I would love RB to have a 64 bit version, for exactly the same reason as John (Session horns)
Love it. Can't use it in RB
32 bit 3 gig ram limit is driving me back to Sonar in order to use the best plugins

May I keep this topic as current as possible please.
I have not seen any evidence, rumors or hints as to whether the developers can achieve a 64 bit version of the software by the half yearly point. It would certainly be amazing if it were possible but at least could we be given a token YES or NO ..... Maybe a POSSIBLY even by the staff?

The best I have ever seen from of PG on a feature request before it was actually introduced is "we're looking into it." This is not meant to discourage you. There are a lot of others who want this also, so keep the request current, and who knows? You might do better. Richard

Any major DAW has no choice but to go 64 bit if it is to stay current and IN the market. My 'request' Ryszard is born from years of using BB from the floppy disk era. I think the software was always light years ahead of any competition .... actually, there is no competition. The software is unique. It's a major step forward and Peter knows this. The luxury of using BB x64 bit would mean being able to stay with BB and RB to start and finish projects with all the major VST and VSTi's that anyone has in their respective arsenal. I for one, would ditch a lot of glitchy software and be extremely thankful for not having to go from one 32 bit prog to a 64 bit prog ..... etc. etc. I know the day will come ..... but for those standing in queues growing old gracefully ..... Well, I'm sure you know what I mean.

I was not aware of this thread and posted somewhere else about 64bit version but got no reply.
My problem is with trying to run samplemodeling plugins (SWAM or Kontakt) in RealBand.
I'm certainly adding my request to everyone else's about wishing for 64 bit versions of both BnBox and RealBand.
As far as the interface, I don't want cosmetic changes, but it would be great to have an improved interface, improved in terms of ease of use (finding things primarily).

I strongly suspect that the BB Team are hard at work working on and coding the 64 bit version.
I really do hope so. I find working with my VST & VSTi in BB very frustrating. As for Real Band I just don't bother. It is so buggy at 32 bit, it just isn't worth the hassle.
I too would appreciate a more coherent manual that is designed to FIND what I'm looking for. I tried to get into the 'nitty gritty' of creating good 'finger picking' styles, actually spent a week trying to create exactly the John Denver acoustic finger pattern for 'We Don't Live Here No More', kudos to Bill Danoff. I gave up in the end and just played it anyway. I'm sure it's possible to create the style and have it play as the original ...... but the time it takes to create a style and style patterns that work correctly in BB just doesn't happen for me at least, even after reading and re-reading the existing manual.
As for the interface .... Some love it, (probably the die-hards and floppy disk original crew), .... some hate it. I'm sure an option to select colour schemes is available but the interface is rather out of date after so many years. My vote would have to go with those that want a new and refreshing interface.
I do wish the 'team' here would make public there intentions regarding 64 bit Band In A Box. It isn't impatience on the part of us purchasers and followers of this amazing software is it? Surely it is just polite to give us an indication of what to look forward to.
Mal.

I also hope for 64 bit it would really up the power of these programs. Access to all the ram 64 bit allows. I also want RB in that conversation. On my system it is not buggy at all and is a solid product, so solid i do not use any other programs at this moment. But fixing the two or three big ticket items we have fussed about over the last three or four years, and going 64 bit would drive a nail in the board for me.

..... or software updates of any note Matt. Scuse pun. :-)
With this years array of VSTi's flooding the market ..... and some stunning ones there are too, the idea now of 64bit BB never seemed better.
Hurry, hurry coders .... but get it right team. the worst case scenario would be that the release turns out so buggy the software doesn't work. This is a constant problem with DAW'S .... with updates having to be released constantly.
I suspect this is why such a mammoth upgrade is taking time. The team are taking great care to please us all.
I hope.
