Wolftone,

What I do is to use a slash chord. I then use the ordinary chord when I want the root to appear.

For example when using an alternating bass with a V7 chord (say, G7 in the key of C), it's usual that the bass start on the fifth of the chord and alternate between the fifth and the root. This is especially true if the V7 chord follows the I chord and the I chord has been alternating the bass between root and fifth. To get 'fifth to root' bass note patterns for the V7 chord, I use the simple Realtracks and enter the chords as | G7/D,G7 | G7/D,G7 |. That usually does the job for me and gives me 'D' bass on beat 1 and the 'G' bass on beat 3.

Regards,
Noel
