Paul Franklin details the procedure on a reply post on the Steel Guitar Forum/Band In A Box/Learning from Franklin. I have a snip of the page. I can e-mail it to some one on this forum,or check it out on the web. It is interesting and not what most people believe. ---------Leon

I would recommend you first check with PG Music before distributing that. Their process of making RealTracks is proprietary.

Knowing what you and I know about RTs Franklin is being intentionally evasive and not telling the real story as to how they are made.He says one bar phrases. PG says:
RealTracks are not "samples"... They are full recordings, lasting from 1 to 8 bars at a time, playing in perfect sync with the other tracks. Choose from pre-made Band-in-a-Box Styles, or combine RealTracks instruments to make your own band.

He's just doing some PR

Ah, thanks, John. Yes, that's harmless; nothing new. Thanks for checking; I'm not on the Steel Guitar Forum.

I do not think there are many secrets. PG Music has explained the general process many times and 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'. I am still knocked out by the soloists and programmers who laid down the best RealTracks. For instance the Ian McDougal solos are an absolute knockout and, as someone was saying the other day after listening to a BB tune, "When did he record that solo and on what CD?" or similar words.

Well, Franklin didn't have anything good to say about the RT creation, that's for sure. I have never used any of Paul's solo track in any of my songs - maybe now I know why.

Wow, that's unfortunate if it is true. Some folks are that way. It seems like it would have been a great opportunity for any musician. It is such a useful tool and useful contribution to the creative process of so many. PG and PG music seems like a truly stand-up person and company.I doubt that integrity goes missing when dealing with musicians.

OF course the 'creation' of the real tracks would have been alot of work for some instruments. Some of it very tedious work. If you listen to the raw tracks you can get a clear picture of much of the process. Different for different instruments but the patterns are present. Repetitive triads, simple chords, simple strumming, simple phrases, looping phrases and progressions etc. For the piano it is really deep and wide.

Personally I am grateful for the program and for Paul's contribution, even if he didn't enjoy it!

Cheers!~

After reading the replys to this post,I side with John on Franklin blowing smoke and with THR as to the tasteless remarks about BIAB in general. I had requested some tracks by Tommy White before Paul came aboard. I can't see Tommy makeing remarks like that on a public fourm. If you vist a major steel guit show and they are HUGE, the artist's rooms are filled with players using BIAB as a back up band. From those rooms, wishers and want to b's hear those tracks and buy a version at the hotel, or order soon after. I can say this is true, because I did just that. ----Leon

"In fact let me say that with all it’s improvements BIAB is still a joke in any serious endeavor. "

Sounds to me like Mr. Bo Legg don't have a clue.....
