A light-bulb blows at turn-on due to phenomenon known as "inrush current" which can be many times the ambient idle current. Logically, computer components, especially on the power supply board, can be damaged by "inrush currents" so I leave mine on 24/7. The idling current is roughly equal to a 40 Watt bulb, even less in power-miser modes.
