I have a song that I recorded years ago, and would like to add some more instruments to it. Am I right in thinking that I could import it into BB as a wav, use the ACW, then send to BB, as usual. . . and then highlight a track, like strings, and generate more music to the song? Like a fiddle, perhaps? I thought about RB, but was worried about syncing up properly.

Hi Gene,
My approach would be....
EASY WAY FIRST...
If you like the recording pretty much as it is, it might be easier simply to read it into RB as a track. You can then use the ACW to determine the tempo. This would be better because RB sets decimal values for the tempo whereas BIAB only uses integers. Once you have the tempo set, you can easily add extra instruments. Lastly, you can combine these additions with the original track in a single track.
IF THE ABOVE DIDN'T WORK...
I'd do exactly what you suggest although I'd probably end up using RB because it's a bit easier to work with WAV files in.

I'd go the RB way myself 3rds.........plus with RB, you can do audio effects for each instrument added as they are needed, etc.

Thanks Noel and Toucher,
I just want to be clear. I want to add maybe a MIDI instrument or a RT, NOT live. That's why I thought I should use the ACW. That is it's purpose? To tell RB, BB what the tempo and the chord progression is?

Yes, if you will be adding automatically generated tracks, then the ACW will help with the tempo as well as establishing the chord progression for the RTracks to follow. Not sure how you would automatically generate midi tracks in RB, that may have to be done in BIB first, such as soloist or melodist, but using BIB backing tracks to follow the chord structure generated by ACW could result in a whole new feel for the song, as well as difficulties with the vocals or melody instruments.

Thank you so much. I am so excited to try it today. It will only be during the lead break. At the time of the recording in 1995, we were just pickers and strummers. We didn't know any good lead guitar players. So the song is just bass, drums, and two acoustic guitars panned slightly left and right. I always thought it needed a little something at the lead break. So I will try to put some RT's over the strumming guitars. No vocals present at that spot. It just might work. What a fantastic program Band in a Box is. To come back and re-edit a 14 year old song off of a cassette tape, and breathe new life into it. WOW.
