For starters have to say that the issue I was having with the movie editing program has been resolved. Instead of converting my VOB file to .avi I converted it to .MPEG instead and both the audio and video work. Now for this problem.

Hi Rokq,

That's unfortunate that the link didn't help.

When you get a chance, if you could answer the following questions, it would help me get a clearer picture.

1. What was the name of the virus that attacked you?

2. What did you use to remove the virus?

3. As a consequence of the virus, did you install anti-virus software and, if so, what was it?

4. Is it possible to install the minimum installation of BIAB onto a second computer (maybe a friend's or family member's) and see if the program runs ok?

5. Go to the Realtrack folder on your external drive, double-click to get inside one of the sub-folders within the Realtrack folder and then double-click on one of the wma files within the folder. Can you hear this wma file play?

6. Along similar lines to point 5, it would be interesting to know if the different types of audio files play. If you can also locate a wav file and an mp3 file to see if they play ok (in addition to the wma file above), it might give some more insight.

Regards,
Noel

(1-3) I don't know the name of the virus, I guess I should have paid more attention to matters but IO knew something was wrong after certain things were acting strange and when I ran an anti-malware/virus program to remove the latest one the anti virus/malware program just disappeared! (And I didn't pay enough attention to what the program was called to get it back!). Anyhow, from then on I've had trouble downloading programs as they would get to the end and then I'd get an error message. Not to mention NONE of any newly installed programs create shortcuts. I was, however, able to download and use AVAST. I thought I had resolved most the issues and, with the help of an uninstaller program, got rid of some stuff. I needed an uninstaller program because NO programs are visible in the "Add/Remove Programs" are in "My Computer." I can only see what programs are installed with the uninstall program. I thought most the issues have been resolved and I could work around problems but THIS one (BIAB), if the virus is to blame, positively needs to get corrected.

(4) No, don't think so. I really don't want to mess with another person's computer.

(5) Ah hah!! But NOT good!! I get a MediaInfo "Class not registered" error message no matter what RealTrack I click on! I have gotten this error message before with more than a couple other programs, usually nearing the end of a download I think. But I'd just click on it and, usually, the program would finish installing. But why I get it clicking on a BIAB RealTrack is beyond me. Moving backwards a bit, at the other forum (when I thought I had a sound problem) I was told to download and install the "MediaInfo tool" (a legit program) which I did. Strangely, now, when I click on one of the BIAB Realtracks I get the "Class not found" error and when I click on OK up pops the MediaInfo tool program and when I close it the error message is still there and I can't get rid of it except through the Task Manager.

Earlier I decided to do a Google search for "Class not registered virus" and saw this:

http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/1065334-virus-5.html

I think, as a last resort (unless, or anyone else) has a better idea, I'll do what this person suggests (unless you or someone else has a better idea) and if that doesn't work just reinstall XP.

I also did another Google search for "MediaInfo class not registered" and found the following:

http://sourceforge.net/p/mediainfo/bugs/735/

Not much help for my problem and I don't understand this at all:

Quote:

MediaInfo is bundled with all dependendancies (except the one you can find on any Windows, starting Windows 95).
A class is registered if you selected the option "Explorer tooltip", and nothing else.

You can remove the registration with uninstall. Then you can reinstall, and the class will be registered again. But this class does not make MediaInfo crashing.

Anyhow, it's not that MediaInfo is crashing on me. It's not. But as I've said, I've also gotten that same error message more than a few times prior to installing the MediaInfo tool. So the question now is, why do I get the same type error message after clicking on BIAB RealTracks?

Oh, almost forgot,

(6) mp3 and wav files work.

P.S. Another search lead me to here:

http://www.moviecodec.com/general/class-not-registered-problem-in-media-player-easily-resolved-6468/

I've read about this "quartz.dll" issue before but am clueless as to how to fix this. (I'll ask my kid over the weekend). Anyhow, I just tried to play a song in Windows Media Player that can be played elsewhere and got this error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

P.P.S. One more thing. What does the message "Beat Map Stretcher was unable to load in the .WAV file" mean??
