Greetings,
Im sure this has been mentioned before in another thread, I cant seem to find one, but the Ipad (and Android tablets as well) have just exploded for musicians in the last year, so many interfaces and apps for creating music are available. Im very surprised that a functional version of BIAB is not available. Im talking about a version that runs from the iPad itself, NOT the app that redirects to the PC version. This is the only thing keeping me from ditching my laptop. If you think good sound cant be had on an ipad, check out "Notion", a full featured notation app with great sounds, The ability to use BIAB with Notion and other music apps would be a killer combo, IMHO! We dont need all the RTs, just Midi super tracks would be fine....until the ipad can handle that much storage......
Thanks for reading, I would love to hear read your comments, Edward

I think the problem boils down to two things, first, the IOS is not a standard Windows or Mac OS and second, the chips used in these devices are not regular CPU's due to size and power requirements.
I frequent several other musicians forums in addition to this one and iPads come up all the time. I don't pay attention to all the details but people keep reporting that they are not good for multitrack sequencing for whatever reasons. iPads are great for some things but terrible for others. People forget they are not full computers and that is the problem.
I think if it could be done it would have been done already but who knows, PG has certainly surprised us before.

Bob That may have been true of the first and second generation iPads but from the third onwards everything is great. I have Auria and Cubasis for iPad and both are capable of 16 or more tracks. You can use them to record a full multi-tracked performance. I have exported BIAB's real tracks into Auria and overdubbed vocals using the camera kit and a Behringer Xenyx 302 USB mixer/interface. In fact if you have a compatible (class compliant) 16in/16out mixer you can record all 16 tracks at once. Kevin

It would be nice to have an abbreviated BIAB that would fit on an I pad or Android tablet, much like iRealb. For a 3 hour gig I'll use BIAB on my laptop, for a short gig I'll use iRealb on my Galaxy S3 phone. Later, Ray

Yes I agree Kevin...Especially when only processing midi data, the iPad chip is no slouch. And the using the Griffin dock, or the IK Multimedia gear, or even the humble Apple camera connector one could send the midi data out the ipad into an external module for all sound generation..
The ONLY drawback as I see it, is the iOS system is not a true multi-tasker...in that one app has to close down when another is the "focus" app, apart from the music player which is designed to be able to run in the background...

Hi Kevin,
Thanks so much for your input! Just wanted to ask you which DAW your prefer, Auria or Cubasis? And which one you think would work better with BIAB IF and WHEN it comes out? I use Notion, and it would be wonderful if BIAB would support Music XML, as this would eliminate having to type in the chords to any file....
Thanks again, Edward

Edward At the moment choices are limited for midi recording. I don't think Auria has midi yet, but I may be wrong. Cubasis on the other hand does have midi already PLUS it has a cut down version of the Halion sampler sounds built in so you don't have to go digging for instruments. I would probably go with BIAB and Cubasis if BIAB as a self contained midi app does happen and leave Auria for audio type recording where it excels. I really do hope it does happen with all the midi style packs as released up to now on Windows as the only other app for this type of thing is Chordbot. Chordbot is OK and functional but I think iBIAB or iBand (there's some suggestions for you PG Music!!)would be the proverbial showstopper. Kevin

As this is a Windows forum .... I got one of these used on eBay for $300, and put in a TB hybrid drive. Runs BIAB great (with no stylus..) Granted, it;s a little heavier than an iPad, but has USB and can handle Aria and a USB EWI.. http://www.amazon.com/HP-TouchSmart-TM2-...+touchsmart+tm2

I think having the app redirect from the PC version is fine - it's much easier to do all the heavy duty arranging on the PC. What is needed is an improved app where all the changes made at the PC are transmitted correctly to the IPad, and most importantly, the ability to move from one song to the next one in a directory in one step.
Cheers! -Alastair

Kevin, How is the best way to get the tracks from BIAB to Auria? I have built backing tracks in BIAB, imported into Auria, plugged my ipad into an Alesis I/O dock, plugged in a mic and guitar, opened up and armed a new channel for each and ran the left and right to the sound board. Worked great. I was able to record myself in Auria during a sound check, then playback and balance myself with the backing tracks. It just seems cumbersome to convert the tracks and put them in Auria through iTunes. I would love to speed this up.

Easiest and quickest way is via iTunes. Look in the Apps section with your iPad plugged into the computer and you will see an entry for Auria. You can then drag and drop the wav files from the BIAB song folder to the Auria directory on the iPad. I sound a little vague possibly cos I am on a business trip at the moment working out of our head office. When I am home on Friday evening, and if you have not figured it out, I will elaborate on the method. Kevin
