Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Try this: when you are typing the chord on beat one, type two periods after it. That is a "shot". Ex. Dm7..
Then leave the rest of the measure empty. The next chord you type will resume sound.
In the Help, there is info about this under the topic, Rests, Shots and Holds.
