Does anyone have this problem? Real Band crashes a lot when I am working on a song at home and press stop in the middle of a song file that is playing a midi or/and audio sequence. It is extremely frustrating especially if I have not saved the file before pressing play. I am using SonyVaio, Win8, with Presonus 44VSL.

It is extremely frustrating especially if I have not saved the file before pressing play. I am using SonyVaio, Win8, with Presonus 44VSL. 1) which version of RB are you using? 2013? I ask because previous versions may have bugs that have been fixed, and knowing which version may help us to remember which problems were not yet addressed at that time. 2) are you using ASIO drivers? If so, switch to MME and see if you still crash. (this is a process of elimination test. ASIO drivers cause problems for some users under certain circumstances and before we eplore all those circumstances its useful to know if eliminating that variable eliminates the crash.) 3) if it crashes when you are playing a song that is 100% MIDI, my first question would be "which soft synth or plugins are you using?" Some of the newer plugs and synths can eat up RAM quickly. For example, the SESSION HORNS package always sucks my ram down to the point that I can't even close the program without program manager

I am using Real band 2013, and softsynths are mainly Halion4 and Dimension 1.5 and Garriton Jazz Band. I have tried it with MME but it still crashes when I have to stop the song in the middle. This happens ONLY when I am working on the song and have to start and stop the song to adjust sounds etc. When playing the song right through A to Z it very rarely crashes. This is good but it is frustrating and requires a lot of patience setting up the song. A friend said to me that it might be a windows8 problem. Quite often I set the song in BB and it works fine and then pull it into Real Band and then the problems start.

What other plugins are being used? Maybe try eliminating plugins one by one. Try without Dimension, if you still have problem, turn it back on and test the next one. Test FX too if applicable. If you find an offending plugin a fix may be something like installing the VST version (if available) vs the DX one. I've seen buffer handling issues in plugins before. Even some that work fine on one machine but crash another. There may be an RB update that fixes it, depending on your version. See if you have the most recent update for your version of RB http://www.pgmusic.com/support.realband.htm
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I have eliminated one softsynth at a time and no luck. I tried with just audio tracks from BB and it still crashes if I stop the song in the middle. Yes i do use the space bar to stop and I will try using the stop button. Will let you know Pat

FWIW, I recently had a project that crashed all the time no matter what I changed. I eventually just deleted that file and started over with a new project using all the same resources. The second (identical) project didn't crash.
Yes, there is value in troubleshooting a problem until you understand what happened... but sometimes the simplest solution is to start over.
It boils down to deciding whether it's more rational to spend an hour rebuilding, or countless unknown hours looking for needles in a haystack.
Having said all that, its still worth mentioning that the value of a forum is that sometimes others already know where the needle is.

but before we stop troubleshooting, more questions:
1) do other projects crash when you stop them? Or just this one? (if other projects don't crash, look for differences between the projects, such as resources used etc)
2) how many tracks are in the project?
3) if you mute all tracks, then solo one track at a time, does it still crash?
4) if one track doesn't crash, the next question is "how many tracks can be unmuted before you start to have problems?"
5) soloing one track at a time, if some tracks don't crash, pay special attention to the first track that crashes. Is it always the same track?
6) I notice you are using 3 fairly beefy soft synths. In a 32 bit app your ram is limited, and high quality synths can deplete ram. As an experiment, make a copy of the project, and in the copy change ALL of the Midi tracks to use Coyote Wavetable. If it doesn't crash after doing that, then report back and we'll discuss options.
