I am not sure about "requiring" it, but in general if you set the key signature correctly, BIAB will normally choose the correct enharmonic spelling for both chords and notes.

A lot of people never set the song's key signature, and just leave it at the default value of C. Also, a few years ago, it became possible to change the key signature within the song, to accommodate modulations.

Apologies if you already knew this. And if the correct key signature doesn't work, try to fool BIAB by using an 'artificial' one with more flats than needed. Worked for me once.
