Hi,
You may find the answer by looking at the main page of the PG Music site/Band in a Box Windows/Requirements.
All is there.

thanks, I see that it is compatible but I've seen it listed on a website for sale where it misses off 8 ? would that be their mistake on the listing? confused

many thanks

Hi,

If in doubt, why not contact PG Music directly. There are multiple ways to do that listed under the Support link at the top of the page.

PG Music not only sell Band In A Box, they are also the programmers that created the software and continue to create it. So if they say it works under Windows 8, then it will do so.

All the best,
Noel

I'm running BIAB & RB just fine on my Windows 8 machine.

Hi yes I realise they created it but just that seed of doubt because of listing on a website selling it, thanks though - I might just drop PG a line just to be sure.

I'm also running BIAB and RB on Windows 8. I had an issue running it, but it turned out to be a conflict with a utility I had installed. Once I uninstalled the utility, it ran fine.

Ah okay thankyou.

Also I wondered what the difference is between Band in a Box and Real Band?

I would recommend watching the videos to see the differences..

Yes, Band-in-a-Box works great on Windows 8.

Note that we haven't added specific Windows 8 feature support like multi-touch gestures, or Metro style app support. ie) It works like it does on Windows 7.

Have Fun!

Thanks Peter,

although having thought about it I may just use it on my XP desktop with normal mouse - as I'm not very good with the laptop mousepad thing (only recently bought it) - very awkward and a much smaller screen too!

Also before I purchase BIAB could you confirm that anything I create on it - provided it is my own composition, I am free to put on CDs and sell even though the music is generated in the program?

Many thanks sorry for all the questions! I want to get it right before I purchase it grin

Hi Artisticlicence,

In relation to your question about freedom to use the BIAB generated tracks and Realtracks, they work belongs to you entirely. PG Music make no claim. You own your work and the BIAB generation 100%.

Quote:
22. Are songs that I create with Band-in-a-Box copyrighted?

The arrangements made by Band-in-a-Box are yours, and your songs may be used freely as long as they don't infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others.

The above quote is taken from PG Music's Sales FAQ found at the below link.

http://www.pgmusic.com/salesfaq1.htm#22

In relation to your XP computer, what are its specifications? These could limit BIAB/RB.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel, Many thanks for that grin

I don't know much about specifications, it's XP operating system, that's all I know?

It does say for XP in the requirements though on the PG website?

You could download and run the free utility, Geekbench. That score should tell us if your PC will run BIAB smoothly.

Hi again, Artisticlicence,

Sorry, I should have explained more clearly what I was meaning.

BIAB/RB will certainly run on XP. There's no problem with the operating system at all. It's the computer that XP is installed on that might challenge the operation of BIAB/RB.

What I should have added in my above post was that because XP is an operating system that's been around many years, computers that it was installed on tend to be older generation computers. This often means less RAM and slower CPUs. If that's the case with your computer, running BIAB smoothly might have some challenges associated with it. Geekbench, that Matt mentions, is a program that will help determine the suitability of your computer.

Regards,
Noel

I've been running BIAB 2013 on Win 8 for about a month now. The only issue I have is with the small size of the text and icons on the BIAB toolbars. I was advised here on the forum to lower the resolution and that worked. However that made the chord cell lines a little too large. So I'm making do with the small text and icons on the toolbars. everything else is OK. Later, Ray

If you are having trouble with the small size of the laptop screen you may be able to plug into your flat screen tv (if you have one available) and use it as a monitor using an RGB or RGB to HDMI cable.

You can choose either showing the same as your laptop screen or extend the laptop screen display to the tv in:
Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Display>Connect to External Display (in Win 7 , not sure where it is in Win 8)

Makes a world of difference.
