Question if I may. I've been rendering some BaiB tracks into wav for import into Itunes (and thus use as backing tracks). Thank you Mac!

My questions is do I need to upward adjust the db in the Audio Track Volume before rendering. The volume of my rendered tracks is lower that some I've purchased (jazzbacks, midifine, for example). I'm just not certain how it's all going to play out when I go live with this (and that's some time off). Of course, I could experiment and will, but I'm curious if there are any tips with this.

My goal is to create tracks that are mostly bass and drums to back my jazz-bent guitar playing.

Tips about creating quality drum/bass tracks would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

still jazzing

I always normalize all of our backing tracks to -3dB. Otherwise, the track volumes will vary too much from track to track. You don't want to be adjusting your track volumes while performing. That is not foolproof, though. Some tracks are just more dynamic than others, so you will have to use your ears to tame the louder ones.

Also a good idea to audition the tracks through whatever PA/amp you will be using live. They're going to sound vastly different than through monitors or phones.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the tip. Question: at what spot do you normalize? Within BaiB before rendering?

Thanks!

I always use Wavelab to normalize. Usually, Wavelab is the final stage, where I master and then balance the perceived volume of all tracks.

I export the wave to a folder and then use my wave editor NCH to do the normalize. I also trim the count in and ending dead space.

If you are using a DAW, you might also want to look into using some mastering software packages to put some spark in the sound as well.

Ozone is one good package for doing just that.

Audacity is free...but if you have an iMac then you have Garageband and with GB you can drop the file in it and then "share" it to iTunes. There is an option to normalize in GB.

Thanks everyone. Very helpful.

Now I've learned what normalizing is and it makes a big difference!

i also deploy wave-lab for voice maintenance because this manages the volume and give me good sound.
