Here is a live recording from a local coffee house. It is BIAB drums and bass playing through a PA. My friend Dale Sanders doing vocals and guitar. Myself on guitar/sound tech. Harmonies are through a Digitec Vocalist. Song is about a guy living in the city, but dreaming of being a cowboy someday. Has a lot of play on words. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=926440&content=musicGene

I really like this one; it was well written and backed by a very good live performance.
Very nicely done,

If I lived closer I would come and hear you guys. Dale's vocals and your writing - great combination. Keep up the good work. My only suggestion would be to make your songs closer to 3 min instead of 2. They are a bit short. Keep the short versions around tho for when you audition for Nashville Star.

Sundance; Thanks for the listen. I know, we went through a phase where we didn't really have the talent to play a good lead break. That alone would be 8 measures or so, and would make the songs longer. Now that I have Real Tracks, look out!

Gene, Don't forget about the good old vocal bridge. It's not appropriate for every song but a good tool to give a song more depth and variation. If done well can make a good song great. Just something to think about in addition to that fancy pickin'.

Hi Gene,
This is a terrific song. I'm listening to it for the third time, now.

Agree wholeheartedly with Noel.
Not only does the composition originate from an interesting and original idea, it is also very well executed. And with a sympathetic live performance here to match.
I'm impressed!!

Arghh! I hit the wrong button and lost my post!
Song sounds real nice. The singer has a Jimmy Buffet country style quality to his voice. Song sound well written, also.

Great song, vocal and arrangement.
Not to mention this is one fantastic live preformance!
I arrived early to a restaurant. The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?" I said no. "Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

Gene ....Great writing on this one man........I like your writing style. Only thing I noticed was that the chorus seemed to be left somewhat unresolved lyrically on the last line. Maybe you can use the hook on the last line of the chorus.

toucher;
I got my PM. I thought about the line, "He shoots it out with Dow and Jones, on wall St. every day" should not be the last thing on your mind as the song ends. should have tagged back to the cowboy thing.
He’s Gonna Be A Cowboy. He was dreamin’ at the age of five, Thinkin’ of cowboys and cattledrives But he lived in the city by the bay He grew up with a silver spoon, Now He’s a major oil tycoon But He’s gonna be a cowboy someday
CHORUS He’s gonna be a cowboy someday But the range he rides is a highrise by the bay In custom boots, western suits, he heards those green back doggies And shoots it out with Dow & Jones On Wall Street everyday
He saddles his Mercedes, it’s a big hit with the ladies A half a dozen phillies wear his brand Well you might think He’s got it made But if you ask him he would say He’s gonna be a cowboy someday
CHORUS THEN TAG Shoots it out with Dow & Jones On Wall Street every day (Written by Gene Packmore)

Forgive me Gene but I really felt it needed a third verse. The song was a great idea but needed a resolution so I wrote a possibility, it's yours if you want it. I'm not trying to crash the gate Hope you don't mind the intrusion . . .sincerely. 3rd verse Now he's saddled with recession, out the window went his pension Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac gunned down With the mortgage due today There's no way that he can pay He's gonna be a cowboy today. 3rd chorus He's gonna be a cowboy today On a horse he rides a thousand miles away On foothill range, in Wrangler jeans, he herds them real doggies And shoots it out with Coors and Jack At the bunkhouse every day.

Ian;
OMG, I love it!!!! I LMAO when I read your post. I can't remember how much of a change you can do, and still keep the same copyright, but I'll tell you what, who cares. We should do a remake. These songs were originally conceived a few years ago, and I always thought they would sound good recorded by a band or added to somehow. They were demo's , short and not really complete to my mind. Can you sing? We might have to work something out here. Thank you for the idea. You apparently can come up with lyrics much faster than me. This song took about 3 weeks to finalize. Everything can always use a makeover. Even my ex-wife! (ducks).. I will get back to you buddy! I don't know how I missed the link to your site, but I just went there and I love "Great Winding Stairs" Verrrryyy well produced. That is from your living room ??? Good job. Don't know your schedule. . Haven't heard from you for weeks, but I will PM you or e-mail you. Gene

Don; Thank you so much for taking the time to listen, and comment. I'm thinkin' a remake is on the horizon. As I may have mentioned, when the song was conceived, we were just "strummers" not really able to do a great guitar break. I could not ever break through that wall between rhythm and lead on guitar. So I still just strum and pick. Buy I have an ace up my sleeve. Real Tracks!
Thank you so much, and stay tuned. As Mac say's , "prepare to burn the midnight oil"..
Gene
