If you want to play with Windows 8.1 (just to see what it looks like), I would suggest running it as a virtual machine. Both Oracle VM Virtualbox and VMWare Player are free. Install whichever virtual manager you want, download the Windows 8.1 ISO file, and then create the OS under the Virtual Machine manager and that way you can check it out. When you are done, you can just delete the VM and get your disk space back. Another advantage is that you can install it as a dynamically sized disk, so it only uses as much disk space as you need.
