Hi all, Can Biab play Chinese Musical instrument ? It will be very convenient if Biab has built-in Chinese Musical instrument. (I found only a VST plug-in that can do so at the moment. http://www.chineekong.com/chineeorchestra.htmlhttp://www.chineekong.com/reviews.htm) Thanks in advance

Sam,
What kind of Chinese music did you have in mind?
If you are wondering if you can simply press a button on BIAB and play traditional music, then no, it cannot do that.
If you are meaning is it possible to load in the VST plugin (you mention above) with Chinese instruments and use that to play MIDI files of Chinese music, then yes, it could do that.
BIAB cannot create Chinese music. That would have to come from somewhere else and, as mentioned above, probably a midi file. BIAB can use VST plugins.
Can you please give us all a little more information so we know what exactly you are after?
Kind regards, Noel

I just want to confirm Biab 2013 cannot play Chinese music with built-in functions. It has many musical instrument, except the Chinese ones. Biab can change musical instrument on the fly, it allows inputting chords directly. It will be perfect if Biab can play Chinese music directly...
With VST plug-in mentioned above, it seems playing Chinese music is limited to real-time playing only at the moment. We can't make amendment later.
Thank you for your information.

Hi Sam, I guess the bottom line is that BIAB doesn't provide a backing of Chinese instruments and their related styles. Just to clear up a couple of misunderstandings in the above ... To use BIAB, it's necessary to enter all the chords. Once that's done, the user presses the "Generate" button and BIAB automatically creates a backing. This does not work on the fly as such. Also, with VSTs they only happen when being played. That's true of any musical instrument though. Anything that's being played through a VST can be saved to an audio file. Have a listen to the below song of mine. The backing is all BIAB except for the stings. The strings are being played through a VST plugin (they start at 44 seconds). This might help give you some idea of what I'm trying to say. https://vimeo.com/69409090All the best, Noel

I found an "Oriental Folk Song" and entered the chords. It is a bit fast, was rushing to get done, gotta go this morning. http://www.mp3cloud.mobi/ChineseDemo.mp3Its backing only playing/rendered thru Forte. The style is CRKWOODS The Western scale may be a problem... But methinks you opened a door, at least for me....

@Noel96: Thank you. Very Nice song. It is sung by you? To my knowledge, if you made mistake of 1 chord during real-time playing with vst plug-in, you have to play the whole song again, even you can save to an audio file. If BIAB have built-in Chinese musical instrument, you just correct the wrong chord and finish the song. There is no need to play the whole song again.
@seeker: Thank you.

Hi Sam,
Yes it's me singing. Thank you for have a listen.
What you have said about VST is correct only when VSTs are used and recorded in realtime. BIAB does not work in realtime, though. With BIAB, everything is set up before the song is played. Once that's done, BIAB will create the song.
VST, (also VSTi and DXi) are simply software sound sources or sythesisers. When a VST is used in BIAB, the midi note information is sent to the plugin and it produces the sound. The sound still comes through the computer's speakers.
If a VST, VSTi or DXi are used as plugins in BIAB, BIAB still behaves the exactly same as if the sound comes directly from the soundcard.
Hope this helps, Noel

Hi Noel96, With BIAB, everything is set up before the song is played. Once that's done, BIAB will create the song. With that said, even I install the VST(also VSTi and DXi) plug-in, I can still setup the chord in Biab and am not forced to play in realtime. Am I right? Thank you for your clarification.

.
It depends on what you mean by "Chinese Music."
There is a big difference between, say, an aria from a Peking opera and the latest hits heard on Radio Shanghai. BiaB is capable of triggering all the notes involved, in either case. The notes can be sent to VSTs that do a good job of recreating the sounds of traditional instruments such as Er-hu and Dzi-dzi. So the answer is yes, in the sense that Chinese music can be done.
As far as I know, no style has been created to reproduce traditional musical idioms, so work remains to be done.
Could you, perhaps, give some examples of what you would like to do?

BiaB not not have any musical instruments, of any nationality. The notes found under the categories called "Piano," " Bass," "Strings," etc can be sent to any sound source. A program such as "Silk" will give the sounds of traditional instruments when correctly connected to receive instructions from BiaB.
