Short version of the question:

I need an mp3 editor. Can I do this easily with with Biab or RB? If so how? If not what inexpensive do you recommend?

Longer version of the same question:

Normally I only use Biab to make backing tracks for practicing tunes. As a result even though I've been using Biab for years I really don't know the program.

I have a recording of a live performance and all I want to do is cut it up into indiviual songs instead of the one long mp3 file that was sent to me.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if this question is in the wrong forum.

Hi Don
There is a program called Audacity, which is a 'Free Digital Audio Editor' that will do exactly what you require. It is essentially designed for working with audio files, and can cut, layer, fade, split, you name it.

Check it out from the Audacity Web Site

Hope this helps

Regards
Trevor

The key word in your question is 'easily'. If you know how to use Realband, it can do it. By default, RB will convert all audio input to WAV. Once there, it can be edited.

You may check out Audacity - free and open source. Easy to do what you want.

The problem with any editor is once an mp3 is converted to WAV, conversion back to mp3 or other lossy formats may cause something called artifacts to appear in your song. This is sometimes heard as swishing or breathing. You can read up on this if you want more details but best bet is to leave the edited song in Wav (or other lossless) format as to not introduce those artifacts.

My thanks for the recommendations. I've downloaded Audacity and have managed to import and play the concert. Editing seems to be more of a challenge than I had expected. I'm willing to bet money that when I figure it out I'll be kicking myself for misinterpreting part of the tutorial.

Thanks again

Don

I use NCH Wavepad. Its free and it works on waves and mp3's. I use it to trim the start and end silence/count in and also to normalize the file.

I like it better than audacity.... just a personal preference.... they both work well.
