Dear all,
I have read quite a few threads about using RealBand, but I am still confused.
Once I have a draft in BIAB that I like, I understand that I could export it as a midi file. Then, if you open that midi file in a DAW like Reaper (which I use), or Cubase, Sonar, etc, you can edit and make use of the VSTi instruments available. (For example, you can use the great samples in Kontakt).
Is this method better than editing the project in RealBand?

RealBand is PGMusic's DAW and will allow you to use VSTi's (such as with Kontakt) just like you can in the others you mentioned.
The advantage of RealBand is that it will open the BIAB file directly (you don't have to export it out to MIDI first). You can also make style changes on the fly, much like you can in BIAB. The other DAWs won't let you do that.
Why not just load it up and start playing with it. Lots of folks here can help you use it; just ask your questions. You may just like what you see.

There are many advantages that come from the compatibility of BiaB and Realband. There are operations that the two programs combined can do and no other DAW can touch.
You will hear from other users who favor some of the other programs that you mentioned. I have never found a need to go anywhere else.

As mentioned, RB can do almost everything the others can do and some things they can't. However, you'll notice things are done a little differently in RB compared to Reaper.
I think a lot of it is because Reaper started as Audio and added MIDI features.
RB started as MIDI (back when it was Powertracks) and added the audio features.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I do not export the BB project as a midi file. I have tried that and find the midi it exports to be extremely "midi" sounding.... or in other words....stiff.
I simple open the project in real band and let RB render the tracks. It always renders a more human performance than any midi track could ever be.
I then export the AUDIO RB tracks to my Sonar DAW where I work on them as needed.
